Jose Aldo Scar- What Happened to the UFC Legend’s Face?

Fans usually associate certain characteristics and mannerisms with different fighters. Some are known for their personality, the way they talk, or the way they present themselves; but when it comes to Jose Aldo, UFC fans associate him with a visible physical feature, a scar on his left cheek. When the UFC fandom talks about Jose Aldo, they point out the huge facial scar that he received when didn’t even learn how to walk.

When Jose Aldo was just a child, his family was spending some quality time during a family barbecue. Apparently, the Hall of Famer was resting in his cot since he was a baby, after all. But Aldo became the victim of a scuffle that his sisters were having which resulted in his eldest sister, Josiline, throwing the baby cot at his younger sister, Rosiline, while their brother was still in there.

The cot smashed into the barbecue and Aldo’s face had to bear the brunt of it since the barbecue was lit and it left a permanent scar on his face. Fortunately, Aldo did not suffer any additional injuries from that incident. “They were playing around and threw me in there. It was hot. I was a little baby. They were little kids. There was another time when my little sister broke my head. I have all kinds of stories,” Aldo revealed this story back in 2009. In the years to come, when ‘Junior’ would break out as a strong force in the UFC, he would get associated with a nickname that was an ode to his scar.

While the story behind the scar lies in ‘Junior’s childhood, many have also linked the former UFC champion’s moniker with Al Pacino’s crime thriller movie, ‘Scarface’. But how far can the link survive?

The connection behind Jose Aldo’s nickname and the childhood accident

Jose Aldo’s called ‘Junior’, and the reason behind it is that he shares the same name with his father. Hence, ‘Junior’ acts as a generational suffix. But when it comes to his nickname, which is purely associated with himself, he’s called by the name of a famous 1980s movie, ‘Scarface’. Nevertheless, that scar did not affect the legendary Brazilian’s confidence – it remained while Jose went on to achieve an unfathomable amount of success in the mixed martial arts space.

After all the dust settled, Scarface turned out to be one of the most well-known, respected, and loved MMA fighters ever. Now, as the date for UFC 307 inches closer, Jose  Aldo gets ready for his fight against Mario Bautista. No doubt he will receive the biggest support from his family, especially his sisters, even though their scuffle accidentally got him his infamous nickname. And all that fans need to do now is wait and watch the story unfold.
