Jared Cannonier turned in his career-best performance against Marvin Vettori at the main event of UFC Vegas 75. ‘Tha Killa Gorilla’ dominated his opponent in a record-breaking masterclass when he tore down the Italian fighter with a barrage of shots. As a result, the American fighter picked up an impressive victory. While the middleweight fighter unleashed voluminous shots, it was his fighting approach that gave him a psychological edge.
UFC veteran Chael Sonnen believes the Dallas native has a secret weapon that blocked an “angry Marvin” to turn up. He mentioned, unlike other fighters, he doesn’t approach fights with a fiery head. Further, his calm persona puzzled his opponents, who then fell into his ability to turn any cage fight into a “sporting event”.

Typically, MMA fighters carry a fierce and blunt persona that helps them with racking publicity and even great matchups. But the 39-year-old fighter stands in stark contrast. Sonnen pointed out how the fighter didn’t get upset, pick on something or even call names.
The MMA analyst said, “[Jared] Cannonier doesn’t get upset with anybody. Cannonier either doesn’t pick on you. He doesn’t call you names of any fashion. He didn’t do what they call trash talk.”
“He doesn’t tweet something out. He doesn’t do any of those things. For most part, he doesn’t do anything at all,” he added later.
Meanwhile, the 17-6 record holder has reaped the benefits of the byproducts over time. The same “madness” of his approach also landed him a title shot against Israel Adesanya.
Cannonier’s “nice” approach landed him a coveted title shot
Sonnen stated, “Well, over time, you start to see some of the byproducts. Israel Adesanya gave Cannonier a title fight, but not because he pissed him off like everybody else did Adesanya ever fought. Cannonier was so nice to him, Izzy said, ‘Man, I want to do this guy a favor’.”
Despite a competitive fight, the #3 ranked middleweight failed to surmount ‘The Last Stylebender’. He recently bounced back after collecting a win when ‘angry Marvin’ failed to show up.
The former UFC title contender declared, “Last night Marvin Vittori got in the ring but had it been anybody else, you would have seen angry Marvin. There’s something to this. There could be a little bit of a method to the madness of Jared Cannonier’s approach and his constant ability to make this a sporting event as opposed to a cage fight.”

With this win, Cannonier moved up the rankings and also put his name in title contention. On the other hand, Vittori dropped a position and finds himself in an odd spot.
