The year 2023 has been an enthralling one for most UFC fans. With a number of superb events and noteworthy incidents like the return of the UFC great Jon Jones, UFC fans might be lauding the promotion currently. The recently concluded UFC Vegas 78 could also vie for top ranking with other awesome events of the year. Several fans might also place it among one of the best events of the year so far.

Well, they would have their reasons for it. The UFC Vegas 78 featured a total of 14 bouts on its entire card. But to the surprise of the fans, nine of those bouts ended prematurely, with the combatants getting the better of their rival well within the stipulated time. Hence, it also won’t be wrong to say many fans might remember this event for a long time as well.

The main card of UFC Vegas 78 was a barn burner

The main card of UFC Vegas 78 contained six bouts in its entirety. The headliner of the event between the former UFC Lightweight champ, Rafael dos Anjos and Vicente Luque went on till its ending seconds. Both fighters started the bout cautiously. But after about a minute, Dos Anjos landed a few strikes and pushed Luque to the cage wall. The latter recovered quickly and also found some success on the ground as he ended the first round with a few strong strikes on Dos Anjos.

Luque started off the second round stronger with a kick. But ‘RDA’ replied with a left hook. But, ‘The Brasilia Native’ took RDA to the ground once more towards the end of the second round. The other rounds showcased ‘RDA’ putting up quite some resistance against Luque with his strikes. However, Luque pressurized him to the cage multiple times and took him down. In the end, the judges decided to award the bout to Luque via a unanimous decision.

The main card of the night also featured an awesome display of a striking war between Hakeem Dawodu and Cub Swanson. Even though Dawodu matched up Sawnson’s strikes initially, the latter piled up more punches as the fight got deeper. ‘The Killer’ got his desired results as the judges ruled the bout in his favor via a unanimous decision.

The four other bouts on the main card excited the audience with two premature stoppages. One of them ended with a TKO, while the second premature ending was due to submission. Here’s a summary of the entire main card of UFC Vegas 78:

  • Iasmin Lucindo vs. Polyana Viana — Lucindo def. Viana – submission (arm triangle choke) Round Two
  • AJ Dobson vs. Tafon Nchukwi — Dobson def. Nchukwi – unanimous decision
  • Josh Fremd vs. Jamie Pickett — Fremd def. Pickett – unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

The UFC Vegas 78 prelims got the fans hyped initially

It won’t be wrong to say that the perfect ambiance for the event was set by the prelims of the UFC Vegas 78 card. Astoundingly, all the seven bouts in the card ended within the stipulated time, with one fighter getting finished off.

The prelims started off with Luana Santos getting the better of her opponent Juliana Miller via a TKO in the opening round of the bout. She also achieved her first-ever UFC victory with a TKO.

It also ended with a premature TKO finish where Marcus McGhee defeated the UFC Bantamweight, JP Buys in the first round as well. Here’s a summary of the results of the other fights in the prelims card of UFC Vegas 78:
