UFC Vegas 70 saw a strange situation. Rising prospect Nurullo Aliev was taking on Rafael Alves at UFC Fight Night 220. Aliev comes from Dushanbe Tajikistan. He is the first fighter out of Tajikistan to have fought in the UFC. Chaos ensued when Aliev faced a point deduction after Alves complained to the referee about a bite. Alves was wincing in pain and the fight came to a halt. The referee smith then asked the NSAC for replays. Nurullo Aliev was asked about the incident in the post-fight press conference where he denied all bite allegations.

During the fight, a situation arose where Nurullo Aliev and Rafael Alves were both on the ground. It appeared that Rafael Alves, in an effort to gain control, fish-hooked Aliev. Fish hooking is a technique where a fighter uses his fingers to stretch an opponent’s mouth. The situation might have been an accident, but Alves was soon in pain and complained to referee Smith.

Soon after the complaint, the referee deducted a point from Aliev‘s score despite no conclusive video evidence of the bite being found. While a point’s deduction may have a lot of repercussions for a fight’s results, Aliev survived and won the fight. Michael Bisping didn’t ask him any bite-related questions after the fight in the octagon interaction. Instead, they celebrated a first-ever victory for Tajikistan in the UFC.

In the post-fight interview, a reporter asked Aliev about the fight. Responding to the question Aliev explained.there was no bite I was controlling him with my head and he was trying to get me off by putting his hand in my mouth so I was trying to spit his hand out and as I was spitting it out his finger caught one of my teeth and so maybe he was tired so he decided that way to kind of call that there was a bite but there wasn’t a bite he just was tired because a young Eagle was pressuring him he felt the pressure of a young eagle and it seemed like the people looking at the replay didn’t see a bite.”

The reporters also asked Aliev what he felt about the point deduction. The fresh-out-of-win fighter was confident and replied, yeah but I made sure to dominate and make sure that not leave the decision in the hands of the judges because I can’t control it whatever they decide that’s what’s going to happen but even if they take one point away two points away three points away, I did whatever I had to do to uh instill my game plan and keep pushing forward and dominantly take the victory”
