Sea͏n Strickland was a to͏ugh champion. Despite that, his first ͏title defense ended in him losing his gold. Many fighte͏rs believed that Strickland should have won the fight considering the amount of strikes he landed, but the reality is Dricus Du Plessis had the last laugh. Now, it’s Israel Adesanya’s turn on the belt.
In a recent conversation with Theo Von, Israel Adesanya witnessed Strickland’s confrontation with music star ‘MGK’, after witnessing that Adesanya had one thing coming of his mouth “I don’t really pay attention. I was like, “Oh, Strickland.” I mean, Strickland put him in public, and that’s a different story.
Von then inquired whether he was looking at a rematch against Strickland.’Stylebender’ stated that he was primarily focused on Du Plessis but he was sure that the UFC admin would make that rematch happen: “100%, man. Let me get through DDP first. Let me handle that. I look to the next fight, never. I look ahead, like the peak, but never try to focus on it. I know that the Strickland fight just comes back around, and I am in a good place now health-wise, mentally, and I know exactly what happened in that fight. It just wasn’t for me. He is a great fighter. He is also a good champion. I mean, he did what he did.

Sean Strickland vs. Israel Adesanya would sell like hotcakes for the UFC, of course, given that but the promotion is keen on making it happen. A matchup between Adesanya and Du Plessis, however, also seems further away, as ‘Stillknocks’ is allegedly not willing to fight right now.

UFC 300 is just months away and Dana White has already announced the main event Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill. However, was it really the main card? Well as per UFC insider, the main fight was supposed to be Israel Adesanya’s comeback against Dricus Du Plessis but that fight never materialized. According to Adesanya, it was Du Plessis who was not into it.
“They were some things that were meant to happen. They summoned me, I’m sure this is out there now … but they summoned me for 300 and I was like ‘yep, let’s roll.’ But their side didn’t want it. They didn’t want it. They just fought Strickland so maybe he had a little bit of niggly injuries and stuff but we’ve all got niggles and what not.” said Adesanya.
