UFC Superstar Israel Adesanya Gets Brutally Honest on Retirement: “I Don’t Think It’s Gonna Be Five Years”

Israel Adesanya is one of the top UFC names of recent times. The 33-year-old made his UFC debut in 2018 when he defeated Rob Wilkinson via TKO to win the Performance Of the Night. Adesanya won the UFC middleweight title against Robert Whittaker in 2019. He defended the title 5 times over the next 3 years before losing it to Alex Pereira.

‘The Last Stylebender’ has been successful ever since he stepped foot in the UFC ring. Fans have loved both his persona as well as his fighting style. The former middleweight champ was last seen in UFC 284, where he came to see the PPV in Australia. After the spectacular PPV, Adesanya talked about his own career in an interview with ESPN.

After talking about a rematch with Pereira and Francis Ngannou’s UFC departure, the interviewer asked Adesanya about his future plans. The interviewer inquired whether the fighter would like to retire at his peak or extend his fighting career and retire in his 40s. Israel Adesanya had a straightforward answer to this question.

“I’ve been in the UFC five years, right? If I’m being honest, I’m not gonna be here in five years”, Adesanya said. “I have other things to do in life”, the former middleweight champ added. According to Adesanya, he loves fighting, and he knows he is “great” at it.

But he does not “attach” himself to the label of a fighter or a champion, and wants to leave at the top.

His statement has made it clear that fans won’t see Adesanya in the UFC for a very long time.

Adesanya is set to face Pereira at UFC 287 on April 8th. He also talked about his upcoming fight in the interview.
