UFC was already lazy to plan for McGregor’s return and he had expressed his frustration. Finally, after UFC 303 was announced McGregor got his much-awaited fight but that too got ruined because of his toe injury. Now that ‘The Notorious’ is again on a small hiatus, Michael Chandler is busy giving challenges to Islam Makhachev and Nate Diaz.

Meanwhile, McGregor hopes to return by September but Dana White has been quiet about those plans. This has made the former fighter think about McGregor’s career status which might be in trouble.

Michael Chandler has been out of the octagon for almost two years and was waiting for McGregor. Since that much-anticipated fight got canceled at the last moment, Chandler is waiting for his next chance. Following Diaz’s win over Jorge Masvidal, Iron wants him next. The well-known UFC advisor Chael Sonnen came to the rescue with his explanations and said that this puts McGregor’s career on hold or even up for possible retirement.

Addressing his previous prediction which he did from a car in Brazil, Sonnen said while speaking on his YouTube channel, “If the rumors are true and the fight between Chandler and Conor McGregor is off on June 29th you never need to revisit this conversation.” He confirmed that the fight would never be rebooked and Mcgregor would have to retire.

Sonnen also gave another scenario and said that even if McGregor did fight again but it was outside UFC or MMA, the retirement from UFC would still stand valid. He said, “And that is a very big statement. And if I was to tell you in fairness, I am not completely bullish on that but I know I am a lot closer in that direction. Like, let’s say Conor was to fight again and it wasn’t MMA and it wasn’t the UFC okay great then I win.”

Sonnen cleared more doubts about Chandler vs. McGregor and gave his doubts on whether it was a new ploy from Chandler to get the fighter he missed for UFC 303.

Recently the former UFC star was in Bad Guy Inc. and talked about the most anticipated matchup which fans were very close to witnessing. He started questioning Chandler’s move of challenging Diaz and Makhachev instead of the main fight with McGregor. He said, “Is Chandler fully locked on McGregor? And his way of getting the fight is by acting like he wants a different fight? Or, does he know something? Well, how about option C? I don’t think these guys are on the same page. I don’t think they’ve ever been.”

He also revealed that Chandler might know something that McGreogr does not and the former was ready to fight regardless of the number of rounds. He also pointed out that there was miscommunication between the two fighters and the UFC. There was a time when the duo was in a crossfire due to miscommunications but it cleared as soon as UFC 303 was announced. However, the situation is back where it started.
