Can Conor McGregor still dominate the UFC, or are his best days behind him?

205-pound kingpin Alex Pereira has found the opponent for his third title defense in Khalil Rountree, but rumor has it that another high-stakes light heavyweight is in the works for the year-ending PPV. Besides the fact that Conor McGregor is expecting to return in December, Dana White could also set the stage for two former champions to hash it out later this year.

Former champion Jamahal Hill was unhappy when he heard about Khalil Rountree getting the title shot against Alex Pereira. After all, he was booked to fight the title challenger at UFC 303. Meanwhile, Jan Blachowicz blasted the UFC for handing Rountree the title shot, claiming that the UFC has provided “special protection” to ‘Poatan’ with easy fights.

Despite Jamahal Hill calling for a rematch against ‘Poatan’, it seems like he and Jan Blachowicz, both of whom lost to Alex Pereira, will clash against each other at UFC 310 as we wait for official confirmation of whether Conor McGregor will feature on that PPV.

For now, this fight is just a rumor, and we have yet to get any concrete details on it because neither of the two light heavyweights has shared any posts or words that would indicate that this fight is official. But what about Conor McGregor? Well, one of his teammates recently spilled the beans on what ‘The Notorious’ has planned for 2024.

Is there any scope for Conor McGregor to make his sure-shot return besides the Jamahal Hill vs Jan Blachowicz rumors?

It’s important to note that the last time Jamahal Hill was booked for a fight, Conor McGregor was also scheduled to return against Michael Chandler. Hence, the question here is if this is an indication that maybe the Irishman’s returning soon. Regardless, one of his teammates and upcoming MMA Irish fighter Dave Fogarty claims that McGregor is rallying for a December return.

“I know Conor is pushing for December or something towards the end of the year. That’s what I think will happen, he’ll fight when he’s ready,” Conor McGregor’s teammate told ‘Bloody Elbow.’ Meanwhile, there’s positive news from a certain insider, UFC legend Chael Sonnen, who believes that we might indeed get to see the Irishman back in action soon, but there’s a huge possibility that it may not take place in December. Rather, the UFC is targeting January 2025.

“Well, I think Conor is sincere that he would like to fight [at] 170 pounds [at the] T-Mobile Arena [in] December 2024 opposite Michael Chandler under the unified rules of mixed martial arts. I believe him [and] I don’t think that’s a ploy for attention. I believe an inside scoop that I’m getting that the UFC wants all of those same things – they just want it in January in California,” Chael Sonnen stated in one of his recent YouTube videos.

Well, it’s always premature to make assumptions about certain rumored fights because anything can change in this crazy sport of MMA. Regardless, what do you have to say about a potential light-heavyweight clash on Conor McGregor’s card?
