Will we finally get to see Dustin Poirier and Colby Covington face off inside the Octagon? The two men have a long history together. Both of them used to be teammates training out of ATT (American Top Team) in Florida, but due to ‘Chaos’ getting into feuds with other UFC fighters at the gym like Poirier and Jorge Masvidal, he was forced to part ways with ATT.
Making the shift to ‘MMA Masters’, Covington is currently out of action since suffering a unanimous decision loss in a welterweight title bout against former champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296. However, rumors are floating around that suggest that the UFC and CEO Dana White might be trying to get ‘The Diamond’ and ‘Chaos’ inside the Octagon to settle their feud once and for all!

According to a post made on X by Rueben Carter, it was revealed that “The UFC have reportedly expressed interest in making Dustin Poirier vs Colby Covington at 170lbs early next year.” But why is there bad blood between the two?
In a recent conversation with Submission Radio, ‘Chaos pulled back the curtain on his abrupt departure from ATT and pointed his finger at Poirier as the reason behind it. Covington shared that, “When we were training together, he was using me everyday just for wrestling. Never wanted to do anything else but just wrestle with me. I was giving him knowledge, giving him information, obviously toying with him like he was an amateur…”
Further in the conversation, Covington alleged that as Poirier’s UFC fame grew so did his “ego”. But things took a turn for the worse when ‘Chaos’ began his surge in the promotion. According to Covington, “As soon as I started rising up the ranks and I became the top draw in the company, that’s when he got jealous and envious… Telling the old gym owner, ‘kick Colby out, he’s a meanie head, he said mean words, kick him out.’ So that’s when the beef started.”

Subsequently, their feud spilled over into public callouts. After defeating ‘Gamebred’ at UFC 272 in 2022, Covington challenged Poirier to a welterweight bout. But ‘The Diamond’ wasn’t having any of it despite claiming that his beef with ‘Chaos’ is “still on sight”.
Now, with the reports suggesting the two may finally throw down inside the Octagon, it’ll be interesting to see if the rumors become a reality and the fans get to see an explosive clash between the two bitter rivals. But for Poirier, there are a lot of names on the list for his next fight in the UFC other than Colby Covington!

‘The Diamond’ is not ready to leave his gloves inside the Octagon just yet
At UFC 302, Dustin Poirier faced a heart-breaking loss against Islam Makhachev in his quest for the UFC lightweight championship. Despite a solid performance, Poirier was unable to dethrone the Dagestani champion. Following the loss, his third failure to secure the undisputed title, Poirier indicated that the end may be in sight for his UFC career.
But during a recent appearance on the ‘Anik and Florian Podcast’, fans of ‘The Diamond’ were given a ray of hope as the Louisiana native indicated that he is still raring to go for one more outing inside the cage. Podcast host Jon Anik offered him a list of names of potential fights that included Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor, Alexander Volkanovski, Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Charles Oliveira, and Colby Covington.
