Can Jiri Prochazka redeem himself against Alex Pereira, or is Pereira just too dominant?

The UFC is reportedly looking to book former UFC light heavyweight champions Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill for a fight on UFC 310, according to rumors. While there has been no official word on the subject from the UFC, MMA reporter Reuben Carter has claimed that Dana White and co. were looking to book ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘The Czech Samurai’ on their last pay-per-view event of 2024 in December.

Both men, of course, are coming off of losses to reigning champ Alex Pereira, who has faced and stopped both men spectacularly earlier this year. The Czech in fact, has lost twice to ‘Poatan’ over the past year, both of them knockouts. Another thing both Prochazka and Hill have in common is that they both had to vacate their title because of injury without ever getting the opportunity to defend it. But now, whoever wins will most definitely find themself one step closer to fighting for the title again.

Because they have fought Pereira this year, it is extremely unlikely that the winner get a shot at ‘Poatan’ and the 205-pound title. That distinction goes to #2 Magomed Ankalaev, who is the best candidate at the moment for Pereira’s next light heavyweight title defense. However, the Dagestani is now scheduled to face Aleksandar Rakic on UFC 308 with rumors that Pereira may be moving weight classes once again. And this may be good news for both Prochazka and Hill.

Alex Pereira’s next fight may open road to another title shot for Jiri Prochazka and Hill

According to rumors, Alex Pereira’s next fight will not be at light heavyweight. Daniel Cormier thinks that the UFC is trying to protect its ‘golden goose’ Alex Pereira from Ankalaev, who can more than hold his own on the ground, which is ‘Poatan’s biggest weakness.

Reports suggest that the UFC will book the Brazilian opposite Israel Adesanya for a trilogy bout at middleweight. But if and only if the Kiwi wins the title off of Dricus Du Plessis in the main event of UFC  305.

On the other hand, should ‘Izzy’ fail to get through ‘DDP’ on August 17 in Perth, Australia, Dana White will have ‘Poatan’ move up a weight class. Pereira, of course, has repeatedly called for a heavyweight title clash and a shot at becoming the UFC’s only three-division champion.

And should Adesanya fail, the UFC will book ‘Poatan’ opposite interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall sometime next year. While the fans will be the biggest winner in either case, Magomed Ankalev will definitely be the biggest loser. The UFC is after all seemingly having the champ change divisions rather than have him fight Ankalaev, despite the Dagestani having done everything right.

This, of course also opens up the possibility that the title may be vacant by the time UFC 310 rolls around, and the winner of Prochzka-Hill would have the strongest claim to fight Ankalaev for the potentially vacant title. Who do you think Alex Pereira should fight next?
