Alexander Volkov has been roped in to fight Ciryl Gane, for his next bout according to reports. He won against his teammate and friend Sergei Pavlovich and now his journey has taken a hurried speed. He took on Sergei Pavlovich on June 22 in the heavyweight fight in Saudi Arabia and won, even after suffering from a staph infection during the ordeal. The co-main event was magnificent however, there was a lot of tension between them because Pavlovich decided to not take his handshake after the fight and now their friendship might be at stake.
On top of that, there is also the matter of the fight was not supposed to happen! Volkov was originally scheduled to fight Jailton Almeida at UFC 302 but UFC changed plans. Now that the bout against Pavlovich has been executed, the two once friends enclosed a rift between them after. Volkov’s rise is not stopping anytime soon, and the buzz is that he may fight Gane. Let’s see what the ordeal is all about!

If this fight does ensue, this is not the first time that the duo has fought each other. Volkov and Gane have last faced each other at UFC Vegas 30 where Gane won the fight. Volkov is also out from his win over Pavlovich in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, there are talks in UFC that the duo might have a rematch next in Paris. According to Ruben Carter, “The UFC has already approached Alexander Volkov about a potential rematch against Ciryl Gane at #UFCParis.”

Gane passed the test against a veteran fighter and donned the record of 9-0 with a unanimous decision in their previous fight. He is an aggressor who backed up Volkov and got the upper hand when he fired his punches. Volkov was at a disadvantage with his back to the cage but gave warning shots. Round five was the most intense with Gane giving in an eye poke but Volkov was good to continue.
Finally, ‘Bon Gamin’ won against ‘Drago’ and that was it. Volkov even admitted that Gane is a good striker and he even invited the Frenchman to stand and trade with him in UFC Apex in 2021. The duo surely knows each other’s fighting style and if they fight this time, both will be in certainly better form. Volkov had also admitted that he could not ask for a better stylistic matchup than Gane. However, his latest prey is not Gane because Volkov has also sent a challenge to Jon Jones‘ way after this latest win against Pavlovich.

Meanwhile, Gane admitted that he would have his hands full with Volkov in the UFC Fight Night 190 main event. They might look forward to fighting this time as well! In the meantime, even Gane is getting attention because he was roped in to carry the Olympic torch!
Ciryl Gane set to be the torchbearer
Bon Gamin had been selected to become the torch bearer for the Paris Olympics 2024. He was excited about the whole ordeal and he even posted about it on social media. After getting the news, he took to Instagram and shared a picture of himself holding the torch and another image of him in the octagon.

He wrote, “Proud to carry the flame. Hoping to see MMA as an Olympic event one day. Meet on 4 June at La Roche-sur-Yon.” As per the news, there were 10,000 athletes and other volunteers hoisting the torch in Paris. This process will continue till 26th July and Gane held the flame on 4th June at Les Sables-d’Olonne, Vendée. even though Volkov wants to fight Jon Jones next, UFC has apparently decided on a rematch between the duo.
