Alex Pereira has proved to be quite the company man for Dana White. After failing to make a quick turnaround following UFC 300 to fight in his native country at UFC 301, ‘Poatan’ stepped in for Conor McGregor to headline UFC 303 while putting his title on the line for a rematch against Jiri Prochazka. But given the short-notice nature of this fight, how much would he be earning for saving the card? Well, it seems like a couple of fellow Brazilian UFC fighters might have the answer to that question.

During a recent episode of the ‘Show Me the Money Podcast’, Renato Moicano and Gilbert Burns chatted about the situation and narrated the turn of events that led Alex Pereira to become the headliner for UFC 303. ‘Durinho’ said, “The guy went all the way to Australia. He brought his whole team [and] he was training and then they [the UFC] call you, ‘You wanna fight?’ [He says] ‘Yes. Let’s go.’ You saw how happy the guy was.”

When the time came to estimate the probable payout for ‘Poatan’, both Renato Moicano and Gilbert appeared to be sure of the fact that Alex Pereira was going to earn a 7-figure sum. “At least 5 [million dollars],” both Brazilian fighters asserted. If the light heavyweight champion is going to make $5 million then it would be the biggest payday he’ll ever receive in his entire UFC career so far.

For many people, the UFC 303 card was already looking weak, and after Conor McGregor pulled out, a few more fighters followed suit which led Dana White to make further changes to the PPV. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira was enjoying his time in Australia and several video clips of him in Down Under have popped up on social media, where fans also got to witness the phone call UFC made to him to fill in for ‘The Notorious’.

Conor McGregor’s undisclosed injury was related to him breaking his toe, and we don’t have any timeline for his return although some sources claim he’s going to sit out for a couple of months. But Alex Pereira, who’s been a real superstar in the UFC since he arrived at the scene, and given how much of a star Alex Pereira has become, Renato Moicano believes the light heavyweight champion did a big favor to Dana White by agreeing to fight on short notice. But why? Well, the event had a lot of eyes ever since its first official announcement.

Renato Moicano lauds ‘Poatan’ for saving a “McGregor card”

Renato Moicano appeared to be a little envious of Alex Pereira, especially because everything’s moving in the right direction for the 205-pound kingpin. “He’s living the best life, right? Alex Pereira, he’s just traveling the world, driving f***ing expensive cars, taking title fights. I think he’s doing everything right, brother,” the lightweight fighter added. Meanwhile, it is important to remember that UFC 303 made a lot of buzz, and if you’re wondering why, it’s as obvious it can be – it was Conor McGregor’s return we’re talking about.

As such, the ticket sales record went off the roof, but as we all know, it fell apart with just a few days left for the PPV. Moreover, Renato Moicano believes that to save the card that’s already generated $20 million, according to Dana White, nobody would have been able to make the same impact by saving the card as much as Alex Pereira can and that guarantees a great paycheck for the light heavyweight champion. “I have never seen a guy so relatable, right? And making a lot of money because to save a McGregor card like that,” Moicano added.
