A few days ago, UFC CEO Dana White, faced the wrath of fans on social media for announcing Max Holloway vs Ilia Topuria as the main event for UFC 308, instead of revealing the main event for the upcoming UFC 307. Now, rumors suggest that Dana White is considering Michael ‘Venom’ Page for the co-main event of UFC 307 as a desperate attempt to boost the card! With Page coming off a loss to ranked #7 welterweight Ian Garry, how good of a move is this?

In a recent X post, renowned MMA reporter Rueben Carter revealed “Michael Venom Page vs. Stephen Thompson is target foe #UFC307.” However, this news contradicts Michael Venom Page’s previous statement after his successful UFC debut against Kevin Holland at UFC 299 in March.

The 37-year-old was previously fighting under the PFL banner while Thompson has been with the UFC. Now, with both fighters under the UFC banner, fans’ anticipation has reignited. The rumor of 41-year-old Stephen Thompson, whose last fight was a December defeat by submission against Shavkat Rakhmonov, facing Page has surfaced once again.

In a previous interview with Ariel Helwani, Page expressed that a fight against Stephen Thompson would look terrible. He added, “What will be a great fight for me and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson will look like a terrible fight for everyone else because we’ll go back into auto-pilot of our point-scoring system and there’s a lot of battles that happen without anything really happening.”

Furthermore, after his defeat against Ian Garry at UFC 303, Michael Venom Page revealed in an interview his desired next opponent: a former UFC champion, and also provided an expected timeline for his return.

Former PFL star Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s aim to reach the top of the welterweight division remains intact, even at the twilight of his career. In a recent interview with UFC veteran Michael Bisping, when asked about his potential plans for the future, Page revealed that he wants to face former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman before the year ends.

He said, “I still feel like I hold weight, people are still excited to see me fight. As long as that’s the case, one small win could put me back in the conversation. I’d still like to fight Usman, he’s the number one ranked fighter. I keep saying this because he doesn’t seem to have a fight lined up.” Page further said that September or November might be possible return dates.
