‘Rocky’ Leon Edwards and Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal have shared a bitter rivalry dating back to 2019. The welterweight fighters got into a backstage brawl at an old UFC event. They ended up exchanging jabs with each other and Masvidal hit Edwards with the ‘Three-piece and a soda’. However, the security separated the men.

Ever since then, both the fighters have been eager to share the octagon, and with a ready backstory, the UFC had everything they needed to book the bout. Unfortunately, fans have had to wait and watch the duo fight other opponents. But now, given how things stand, the duo may be the most viable opponents for each other.

In an exclusive interview with Barstool Sports, UFC President Dana White said, “Maybe we’ll do Leon Edwards and Masvidal.”

If this happens, fans will be in for a treat. But despite the fight making sense, will ‘Rocky’ be keen on taking on a lower-ranked fighter and potentially jeopardizing his win streak?

Will Leon Edwards fight Jorge Masvidal?

The British fighter, Leon Edwards, wanted to settle things with Jorge Masvidal. However, the promotion couldn’t set up the fight.

Edwards, currently on a ten-fight win streak, is ranked #3 in the welterweight roster. Considering the same, he may look to fight only higher-ranked opponents. In a recent tweet, he expressed his disinterest in fighting ‘Gamebred’. Instead, he wanted the welterweight title shot.

However, the promotion has set up a rematch between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman for the welterweight gold. This means that Edwards will have only Gilbert Burns as an opponent who is ranked higher than him.

Now, following White’s words, it seems unlikely that Edwards will get anyone else but the BMF champion. While Masvidal is a lower-ranked foe, a win over him will propel ‘Rocky’ to stardom and slingshot him into the title ride.

Should this get booked, it will be a win-win for all parties. The UFC will have a big draw, Masvidal can get his own title aspirations on track, and ‘Rocky’ can get a win against a popular name, making it hard to deny him a shot on the back of an 11 fight streak.
