Alex Pereira, the dominant force in the UFC’s light heavyweight division, once again showcased his grit and power at UFC 307. Facing a determined Khalil Rountree Jr., Pereira successfully defended his title for the third time, securing a fourth-round TKO victory. But it wasn’t just another title defense. ‘Poatan’ also set the record for the fastest-ever time to accomplish 3 title defenses in just 175 days!
But is that enough to declare him the top P4P fighter in the sport? A race that has Islam Makhachev leading the pack with Jon Jones close behind Pereira! Yet, in a sport where the rankings are often shaken up after such battles, something surprising has happened after UFC 307.

According to a recent post on X shared by John Morgan, “No change at light heavyweight in the official rankings update following #UFC307.” The post also stated that Rountree, who went toe-to-toe with the reigning champion, remains solidly at No. 8, while Pereira still remains the king of the division.
The decision not to alter Rountree’s rank reflects the respect the UFC community has for his performance. After all, ‘The War Horse’ didn’t just show up to fight; he brought everything he had against one of the UFC’s most dangerous men. His heart, resilience, and skill were on full display as he pushed Pereira to his limits and even staggered the champion visibly at one point in the fight.
Morgan further revealed, “Additionally, “Poatan” remains No. 2 in the pound-for-pound list, which also remains unchanged”. Currently, Islam Makhachev holds the number 1 P4P spot, with Jon Jones coming in at no. 3.

This has now added more weight to the Brazilian’s claim not only as the divisional champion but as one of the best fighters across the entire organization! With just 10 fights in his UFC career, he has already captured titles in two weight classes—a feat most fighters only dream of. But is that enough to de-throne Makhachev from his perch atop the P4P rankings? A UFC veteran certainly thinks so!

‘The Count’ left with no choice but to hand Pereira the crown of P4P king
While UFC boss Dana White has staunchly defended Jon Jones as the undisputed pound-for-pound number one on numerous occasions, Michael Bisping has a different view. In his eyes, Alex Pereira is the man deserving of that crown. And after his destruction of Rountree, he made his case clear in the eyes of ‘The Count’.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bisping stated, “Pereira is going through everybody. Three title defenses in seven months and taking the world by storm. So, if you go through the top ten, it’s hard to deny Pereira’s the number one.”

Alex Pereira’s ability to finish fights with terrifying precision, as seen once again at UFC 307, has earned him respect across the sport. And that’s where Bisping’s argument comes into focus. The UFC veteran further stated, “To be pound-for-pound number one, you’ve got to be finishing people; you can’t be scraping by them with split decisions. You’ve got to be doing it in emphatic fashion. And I don’t think there’s anybody out there with the finishing ability of Alex Pereira; it’s frightening what he can do.”
As UFC fans know all too well, the pound-for-pound debate is as mythical as it is heated. But in Bisping’s words, “I’m gonna give Pereira the top spot right now.” So, what do you think? Has Alex Pereira earned his place as the pound-for-pound king, or do Islam Makhachev or Jon Jones still argue with him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
