Did the UFC hand Alex Pereira a fight to boost ratings, or does he truly deserve it?

For a while now, Jon Jones has been hinting at potentially wrapping up his career after fighting former 2-time champion Stipe Miocic. But guess what? It seems like the heavyweight champion may not hang up his gloves just yet. And if you’ve guessed already, some MMA veterans are ideating a fight between Bones and 205-pound champion, Alex Pereira.

Jon Jones recently claimed that he indeed has his return planned up but preferred to keep it confidential. But ahead of his return, fans on X couldn’t help but ask him about his future. Well, there was a bit of bad news for the UFC masses, but there was also a hint of a few possibilities as well. Let’s see what Jones had to say.

Jon Jones seemed excited when he responded to the fan asking about his retirement plans, which according to him should take place after the Stipe Miocic fight. But guess what? Jones’s retirement plans heavily depend on what kind of a show he puts on against the MMA fighter-cum-firefighter. If he finds himself on the winning side, ‘Bones’ could consider a few possible options as opponents, although he didn’t reveal whom he had in mind. However, he did mention about Alex Pereira before.

Meanwhile, a couple of MMA veterans, on YouTube, stressed the emergence of the 205-pound king, Alex Pereira. Two titles in two separate divisions in the shortest amount of fights isn’t something we witness regularly and as such, Josh Thomson wants to see ‘Poatan’ make that grand jump to Jon Jones’s weight class and get a third belt. “I have this itch to see him [Alex Pereira] fight in heavyweight… he could be the first fighter in a major promotion to win three titles in three different weight classes,” the former UFC fighter stated on the ‘Weighing In’ podcast.

It was then that Josh Thomson revealed the one fight, that not only him but all the fans want to see, which is a scramble between Alex Pereira and Jon Jones. “He’s already done everything… Let’s see if he can beat Jon Jones. I want to see that fight,” Thomson. However, there seems to be hesitation in Dana White regarding Pereira’s heavyweight move. Let’s check out that front.

Why doesn’t Dana White want ‘Poatan’ to move to heavyweight?

The heavyweight has already found itself with two big-time title clashes coming up. While Jon Jones is preparing to take on Stipe Miocic, Tom Aspinall will be putting his title on the line against Curtis Blaydes. But is that the only reason why Dana White’s hesitant to give Alex Pereira a heavyweight fight? Well, that is not the entire reason. The UFC CEO claims that fighting at heavyweight is a whole other ball game.

” It’s a whole other level going up to heavyweight. Even as big as Jon Jones is, as good as Jon Jones is, when Jon Jones was moving up to heavyweight, we’re like, ‘This is going to be interesting,'” Dana White stated during the UFC 303 post-fight press conference. So what does this mean? Will we ever get to see ‘Poatan’ in the heaviest weight class? It does not seem uncertain but for now, we will have to see him fight as a 205’er.
