Is Dricus Du Plessis right to set conditions for a rematch with Israel Adesanya?

Finally, UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his title with a grueling fourth-round submission win over Israel Adesanya, ending the debate on who the true son of Africa is. This victory also paved the way for a potential UFC event in Africa, as UFC CEO Dana White had promised Du Plessis. Seizing this opportunity, Du Plessis’ coach, Morne Visser, views African soil as the perfect setting for their next battle and has opened up about the possibility of a rematch.

In his recent interview with Submission Radio, when asked about potential opponents for Dricus Du Plessis if a UFC event were to happen in Africa, including a possible rematch with Israel Adesanya, Morne Visser dismissed the idea of an imminent event. However, outlined conditions under which he would agree to the rematch, stating, “I think the only guy that deserves to fight us in Africa is Izzy. So it will be a rematch, and the only guys that deserve Africa are two Africans, the true Africans. Nobody else. So that’s just my opinion.”

Adesanya and Du Plessis previously engaged in heated rivalry, each contesting the other’s African heritage. Their verbal attacks escalated to personal insults and family matters, even reducing Adesanya to tears. However, following their fight, Du Plessis apologized to Adesanya’s parents for his actions, mending their animosity.

‘Stylebender’, having moved past his ‘first real African champion’ mentality, praised Du Plessis’ UFC 305 victory, deeming it a triumph for Africa and an inspiration for future generations.

Israel Adesanya reflects on his loss against Du Plessis

Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his title against longtime rival Israel Adesanya, bringing the championship belt to South Africa for the second time. Despite this, Adesanya maintains that he, Kamaru Usman, and Francis Ngannou are the “Three Kings” of African MMA. This dispute originated from Du Plessis’ claim to be the first true African champion, which he later clarified to mean fighters currently residing on the African continent after facing backlash from Adesanya.
