Leon Edwards doesn't care about Khabib—Is he underestimating Belal Muhammad's corner advantage?

“I win. I feel like I stop him in the third [round]. I truly believe that I am just skill-for-skill better than him,” said Leon Edwards regarding his upcoming clash with Belel Muhammad. The welterweight champion will defend his ‘170-lbs title against Muhammad at the UFC 304 in Machester. ‘Rocky’ is absolutely confident about his victory against ‘Remember The Name’, but there’s a catch. What, you ask? Well, Muhammad has been training hard with none other than Team Khabib.

The community is curious if this training will help him achieve his goal, but according to Edwards, all this showmanship will not help Muhammad inside the Octagon.

Their initial clash happened back in 2021 and ended in an unfortunate accident when Edwards accidentally poked Muhammad in the eye, rendering him unable to continue. Their rivalry will resume on July 27th. Both fighters have remained undefeated since their initial encounter. Edwards exudes confidence in his skills, but Muhammad has a trump card up his sleeve.

There’s speculation that Khabib Nurmagomedov will be in Muhammad’s corner to assist him. This might pose a problem for any other fighter, but for Edwards, it’s just another day of survival. During a conversation with ‘RedCornerMMA,’ Edwards was asked if he believed Nurmagomedov would study his strategy for a potential clash against Islam Makhachev. The welterweight champ remained unfazed, saying, “It’s possible. You know, like I said, I don’t look too much into it. Like I said, just because he has someone in his corner doesn’t make a difference to me.”

He further added, “I feel like if that’s what he’s banking on, having a man in his corner, it doesn’t make a difference when it comes to fight night. His skills and the way he fights for the last however many years are the same. So, let’s see. Like I said, I don’t give a shit who’s in his corner or who he’s training with when it comes to fight night. It’s just me and him alone in a cage.”

Leon Edwards vs. Islam Makhachev is a match that will happen sooner or later in the UFC. The lightweight champ has called out Edwards multiple times, and it’s only a matter of time before this fight goes down. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s biggest achievement would be making Makhachev a dual-weight champion, and he might be in Muhammad’s corner to evaluate Edwards’s game plan. But what does ‘Rocky’ think about this? Let’s find out.

‘Rocky’ is a bit confused about his potential clash with Islam Makhachev

After defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 302, Makhachev stated his desire to become a double-weight champion, with Leon Edwards as his next opponent for the welterweight belt. Makhachev expressed this ambition to UFC Supremo Dana White. Becoming a double champ is one of Makhachev’s biggest dreams. But what about Edwards? Is he looking for a fight?

Well, at the start of June, Edwards stated that both of them have to conquer their division before jumping into new ones, “I welcome it but I think we’ve both got work to do within our (own) divisions. Unless we both go on this reign, then why not?.” However, the scene appeared to have changed for now as ‘Rocky’s recent comments hint towards a clash, “I can see that happening in the future.”

Their clash would sell like hotcakes for the promotion. Nonetheless, what’s your take on the entire fiasco? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
