Can Jon Jones reclaim his throne, or will Stipe Miocic prove he's the true heavyweight king?

Jon Jones has sent shockwaves through the MMA sphere with a recent update on social media! The current UFC undisputed heavyweight champion has been out of action since tearing his pectoral tendon ahead of his clash against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November 2023. As such, the fight was cancelled and an interim title bout was set up between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich which Aspinall won.

In an interview last month on ‘The Jim Rome Show, UFC CEO Dana White was asked about Jones’s recovery and health status and he responded by stating, “We’ll see him soon. We’ll either see him in the summer or the fall.” However, ‘Bones’ has now come out to clear the air surrounding his comeback as he recently indicated that his return to the cage may already be on the horizon!

Jon Jones last stepped into the cage against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023 where he made his debut in the 265 lbs division. He claimed the vacant UFC heavyweight championship by finishing the Frenchman in the first round via guillotine choke. Since suffering from his injury ahead of UFC 295, Jones has been teasing the fans online by showing his interest in possibly facing Alex Pereira in the future.

However, at the UFC St. Louis post-fight press conference, UFC boss Dana White stated that Jones’s return is confirmed to be against Stipe Miocic as he revealed, “Yeah, it’s Stipe. I think Jon’s just asking, ‘Who do you like? What do you think?’ Kind of just feeling it out, seeing what people think. But he knows he’s fighting Stipe.”

As such, in a recent update shared on Instagram by Championship Rounds, Jon Jones took to social media to respond to a fan asking him to “claim a fight”. ‘Bones’ responded by stating, “November 9th Madison Square Garden, I know it seems like a dream but it’s really happening.”

Have an interesting take?

This announcement has the MMA community buzzing with excitement as Jon Jones’s potential return in November at Madison Square Garden promises to be a monumental event for the fandom. But in another post on social media, ‘Bones’ has also revealed that the outcome of the fight against Miocic can possibly mark the end of his storied UFC career!

Is ‘Bones’ ready to hang up the gloves?

Before Jon Jones returns to the Octagon, Tom Aspinall will be defending his interim heavyweight title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. While Aspinall has been vocal about wanting a unification bout against Jones, the undisputed champion has his eyes set on the fight against Stipe Miocic. However, during a recent exchange with a fan on social media, it appears that Aspinall may not get a chance to test himself against the legendary ‘Bones’!

A fan had asked Jones if the fight against Miocic could be the end of his UFC career that began in 2008. Jones responded by stating, “Honestly, it’s hard to say right now, I’m gonna base a lot of that on my next performance. The options are looking crazy right now.”

With Aspinall having already indicated his interest in a bout against Jones and Alex Pereira’s name also in the mix, it does align with Jones’s assertion that he has multiple options to consider after he finally steps into the cage against Stipe Miocic. Do you think Jon Jones should unify his belt against Tom Aspinall after his fight with Miocic? Or would you be more interested in seeing a clash between ‘Poatan’ and Bones?
