Did Dustin Poirier just expose Michael Chandler as all talk and no action?

Dustin Poirier has once again lashed out at Michael Chandler. The rivalry between the two dates back to 2022, when they were pitted against each other at UFC 281. Poirier successfully submitted Chandler in the third round of their bout with a rear naked choke. However, the fight made ‘The Diamond’ label ‘Iron’ as a ‘dirty fighter’. Needless to say, the spat went on for quite a while. And now, it seems like the hatchet wasn’t buried at all.

Poirier slammed Chandler on X and asked him to hold his horses. He took a step further and reminded him of their fight at UFC 281. But why was he so upset with what Chandler said?

Not too long ago, the former UFC lightweight interim champion took to X and wrote, “Pipe down muscle milk mike.” This was followed by yet another tweet, that read, “Choked your a** out, and you haven’t fought since.” However, ‘Iron’ didn’t want any part of the beef, but his reply infuriated Poirier. Chandler’s words were, ““No thanks” – retire man…we good.”

Talking to the famed MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, on his talk show, The MMA Hour, Poirier revealed why he was upset over the tweet. And boy did he rant! He said, “I mean come on, dude… “No thanks”. – retire, we good. Who the f**k is we? You just got here buddy. You’re not one of us. You’re not we. I’ve been here… Welcome to the UFC, dude. You got one win in the UFC.”

Poirier gave Chandler a harsh reality check, claiming that he was not one of the UFC fighters. ‘Iron’ was indeed a lightweight champion at Bellator MMA. He joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship back in 2020 and has made a name for himself in the organization. On the other hand, Poirier stepped into the Octagon in early 2011 and was quick to rise in popularity. But when Chandler lumped both of them together, Poirier simply did not like it.

When Helwani asked to confirm if that was the reason for him being upset, the former LW interim champ said, “You know, I’ve been cutting my teeth in the UFC since January of 2011 or 2010, you know. He just got here. Who’s we? He’s speaking for the lightweight division? Dude, Muscle Milk Mike needs to chill.”

Chandler hasn’t returned to the Octagon ever since he lost his battle against Poirier. He also picked up a rivalry with Conor McGregor at TUF 31. The duo were set to fight each other at UFC 303, but an unfortunate injury forced ‘The Notorious’ to pull out of the bout. This has left Chandler pretty desperate for a fight. But Poirier had something to say about that as well.

‘The Diamond’ opens up on Chandler vs. McGregor

The return of the ‘Mystic Mac’ to fight ‘Iron’ had the fight fans in great anticipation. Without a doubt, the cancelation of the fight was an equally great disappointment. Speculations have already begun to form, claiming that Chandler might fight McGregor on 14th September, at the Sphere. Even ‘Mystic Mike’ dropped a hint on that. While many others wanted Chandler to take up anyone else in the division, Poirier had a different opinion.

‘The Diamond’ suggested that Chandler should indeed wait for the fight against McGregor to materialize. In case he got into a fight with someone else and lost, he might lose the chance to get a hefty paycheck for fighting the Irishman. Howbeit, waiting is indeed a double-edged sword. He said, “The payoff of beating Conor McGregor, financially and just for your career, is worth the wait. But if you never get it, you’re wasting a lot of years and you’re not a young man.”

With Poirier’s retirement still in discussion, the beef spicing up might suggest the fans getting a fight between Poirier and Chandler. Do you think it will happen? What are your thoughts on Poirier’s claims about Chandler not being a part of the UFC? Let us know in the comments down below.
