According to Georges St. Pierre, it was a mixed-rules MMA/boxing match. Moreover, it looked like a boxing match inside the octagon. However, why did he reject the offer from the legendary boxing champion?

In 2023, Georges St. Pierre discussed combat sports with journalist Aaron Bronsteter, where the two-division champion claimed he was approached by Floyd Mayweather’s management for a possible boxing fight. However, he had certain personal criteria that he needed before he agreed to the fight.

The Canadian fighter said that his main concerns were centered around the risks with any combat sports. Mayweather was not willing to compromise his well-being or health for any amount of fame or fair play.

During the interview,  Georges St. Pierre further remarked, “Even Floyd Mayweather said there was a promoter who wanted to organize. The way they describe it; It was a fair compromise between boxing and MMA against Floyd Mayweather.”

However, GSP was not going to be allowed to use any of his kicks and takedowns, as he remarked, “You don’t want to allow me to use my legs, use my takedowns. Forget it it’s a trap. I am not that stupid.” Georges St. Pierre might be a meticulous fighter, but he once claimed that he never liked fighting.

GSP had gone to the pound £4 forecast by  Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman, where he spoke about several topics. But what attracted the hosts was his striking revelation, highlighting how he was not found fighting. Notably, Georges St. Pierre declared, “I’m going to tell you something, guys. I never liked it. I never liked to fight. I liked the sport, the science of it. I liked to go train in the gym, the camaraderie of that.”

“I have with my training partner, the science of it, the freedom that fighting gives me, you know, the money, the access of things, that others don’t have,” he further noted. GSP also confessed his love for the sport and the feeling around it, but the grind of knowing that one has to fight in a schedule and the opponent might be deadly is not something that he liked.
