If you won a match in a dominant fashion, you would likely celebrate it to the fullest. That’s exactly what Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis did after defeating Rodrigo Nascimento at UFC St. Louis. However, Lewis’s celebration involved rather brash antics. The former heavyweight title contender stripped, danced atop his defeated opponent, flashed the camera, and finally showed the middle finger to the entire media in attendance. Well, Dana White generally doesn’t promote this behavior but there’s no stopping Lewis.
It should further be noted that Lewis even threw a cup at the media personnel after his victory. After Dana White was forced to sign the cup, he couldn’t help but react to Lewis’s behavior towards the media.

Lewis seems to be finally back at his original form after a lackluster performance against Jailton Almeida in 2023 at UFC Fight Night 231. The knockout king dropped the Brazilian in the third round to claim the victory. Winning a bout after a series of defeats gives you another level of adrenaline which may or may not be good for the people around you. The post-victory celebration of Derrick Lewis could be one such.
One ͏of the highlights of the event at St. Louis was ͏Lewis throwing cups at the media personnel. On the occurrence, one of the journalists managed to catch a cup ͏and got it signed by the ‘Black Beast’ himself. Later, at the post-fight ͏press conference, the journalist asked Dana White to sign the cup, but the UFC supremo͏ was a bit perplexed by the request. “I would prefer not to but you were very lucky to catch that,” said White in the presser.
However, he later agreed to sign it after knowing the fact that Lewis had signed it as well. Following the instance, another clip of Lewis’s celebration surfaced on the internet, where the UFC St. Louis victor can be seen showing the middle finger to the media. After coming across it, Dana White couldn’t resist but comment four words for the media, “Everyone LOVES the media”

The UFC supremo has always been harsh on the media. “When you’re in a business like us, the level of scumbags that are in the media, it’s unexplainable… these scumbags out there that know nothing about the business…” he has previously claimed. According to Dana White, the media likes to twist the narrative at their convenience and it was evident at the UFC 300.
When White proved the MMA media wrong
UFC 300 was a banger. The entire card was packed with fights that could be main events. The grand event took months to be prepared and White was proud of it but MMA media proclaimed that the card would be a disaster and it would just drop off without any star fights. However, the UFC supremo proved everyone wrong as not only did UFC 300 break multiple records, but it also generated a revenue of approximately $100 million for the promotion.

Just days after the event, Dana White dropped a diss-track-approach video on the face of social media where he called out everyone who doubted him. It included Brendan Schaub and Ariel Helwani. In the video, the UFC head stated the record the grand night made and remarked that it was a bad idea to bet against him. Nonetheless, the video got a response from Helwani and Schaub.
Helwani, the journalist, added in his statement that he defended Dana White after he announced the card and took a safe approach, while on the other hand Schaub was a bit dominant as he said, “This side of the media that doesn’t work for the UFC and work for ESPN or is under the thumb of Dana, you need us. It can’t be just a j**k-off fest of the UFC because then that’s not media, that’s propaganda. Then you’re no different than Fox or CNN.” Nonetheless, Dana White would always have a love-hate relationship with the media.
