It is no surprise to anyone that Conor McGregor‘s UFC career is in the doldrums. While his fans were eager to finally witness an epic comeback after months of banters and teasing, now claims and demands that the fighter should just retire have increased considerably. One UFC veteran specifically has made big claims that despite the commotion, he never had much faith in McGregor’s comeback, and this might be just where he hangs his gloves.
The most anticipated comeback in MMA history was derailed by an injury which is yet to be revealed by team Conor or the UFC. It would have been a marvelous recovery for Conor McGregor but the June 3rd cancellation of the Dublin press conference sealed the deal for the former dual weight champion. Former UFC fighter, Matt Brown recently sat down with “MMAFighting” and when asked about his opinion on McGregor’s comeback, then he had nothing but pessimism to offer.
“I was never confident before that he would [come back]. It didn’t shock me when I saw he was out of this fight. No, I’m still on that same train — he’s not ever coming back. I say the same thing I said before, I hope he proves me wrong. I hope I’m wrong.” said Brown. It must be noted that when McGregor announced his return, Brown was one of the first individuals who celebrated it.

He further added, “I would like to see Conor fight again. I would like to see him do a real training camp with real training partners, push himself hard, and go back to the great Conor that he was before. I would love to see that. I think a lot of people would love to see that. It’s not happening.”
But Brown also seems to have a plan for the fighter. Matt Brown seems certain that McGregor should venture into boxing as the sport has less wear and tear for his already problematic leg- “If he’s going to fight again, it should be boxing.” While this pessimism might come as a shock to avid Mac fans, Brown is not the only one who is thinking about McGregor’s retirement. Even Chael Sonnen believes that McGregor should retire now after abandoning UFC 303. “If McGregor does not show up on June 29 and fight Michael Chandler at 170 pounds, it is the exact same as announcing Conor McGregor’s retirement from the sport,” said Sonnen in one of his YouTube videos.

While Both Brown and Sonnen are a bit gloomy about McGregor’s return Henry Cejudo is glad that McGregor is taking time for his recovery.
Henry Cejudo is ok with McGregor taking a pause
Recovery is one of the most important aspects of MMA. One should not enter the Octagon if he has not yet fully recovered and Henry Cejudo knows this very well. Interestingly, unlike Brown, Cejudo is glad that McGregor has pulled out of UFC 303. Why, you ask? Well, the former dual-weight believes that McGregor should be a bit considerate about his health now.

While having a conversation with Kamaru Usman on Pound-4-pound, Cejudo said, “Let me put it to you this way Kamaru: The fact that Conor McGregor has to pull out, that’s actually a really good sign, What do I mean by that is he’s probably killing a little bit of his ego and now he’s taking it a lot more serious than ever. It’s also an experience for him, so the way that I’m taking it, too, is that they’re going to fight, but he’s at that point where, ‘I want to make sure that I’m 100 percent,’ like this comeback to me is real.”
Conor McGregor and his team have apologized for the dilemma but they have yet to comment on any comeback date for him or even the nature of his injury. Will he be ever able to return or this is a deal done for ‘Notorious’? What’s your take on the entire situation? State your thoughts in the comments below.
