Dana White is a fan of the sport through and through. And as a fan, he enjoys an epic fighter walkout like the rest of us. According to White, former double champion Conor McGregor had the best walkout in the UFC. Usually, he comes out to an Irish song named, ‘Foggy dew,’ and then kicks into a rap song by ‘The Notorious B.I.G,’ but White was talking about the one time this walkout gave him goosebumps.
Back at UFC 189 in July 2015, the Irishman walked out to his compatriot Sinéad O’Connor singing ‘The Foggy Dew’ live, and that was a spectacle to witness. White considers this iconic walkout of the Irishman to be the most captivating and the greatest he’s ever seen. During the Pat McAfee Show, he was asked, “Who has the greatest walkout in UFC history?” He responded, “McGregor. Has to be,” to which one of the interviewers recalled the UFC 189 walkout.
It bears mention that White did not even think twice before answering and his answer was very decisive. Moreover, this has not been the sole instance the CEO of the UFC has spoken highly about the Irishman.
Dana White was captivated by McGregor right off the bat!
Before McGregor became a massive star, White knew ‘The Notorious’ had the potential for it. After his UFC debut, a young McGregor met White in his green room with an Irish flag and made some bold claims. Just after one conversation, White was hooked, and he knew that the sport had a potential star to dominate the scene.
In an interview, he once said, “
They signed him. Conor came out here. He and I went to dinner. When I left the dinner, I called Lorenzo [Fertitta]. I said, ‘Dude, I don’t know if this kid can fight or not, but if he can even throw a punch, he’s gonna be a huge superstar.”Watch this story: Snubbing Dricus Du Plessis Yet Again, Dana White Clears the Air Around Israel Adesanya Getting an Immediate Rematch Against Sean StricklandIt is safe to say that White’s perception was right about him as the Irishman went on to be the biggest star the sport has ever seen.
