Colby Covington aka ‘Chaos’ just confirmed that he would be fighting in UFC 303. The welterweight fighter plans to get back into the octagon but is not as sure about Ian Garry as his opponent. The 36-year-old not only gave his opinion on his opponent but apparently, he also declared his desire to be the backup for the Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight. Or did he?
In the latest interview with Submission Radio, ‘Chaos’ cleared all doubts and speculations about him being the backup for the Chandler vs McGregor fight in UFC 303.

‘Mystic Mac’ is returning with a blast in UFC 303 against Michael Chandler and even the co-main was announced for the bout. Jamahal Hill would be facing Khalil Rountree after being defeated in UFC 300 by Alex Pereira. However, when it comes to Ian Garry, the 26-year-old wants to fight Covington in the co-main event.
In the meantime, Covington has also revealed his desire to be the backup for the main fight between ‘The Notorious’ and ‘Iron.’ He was asked whether he would be open to being a backup for the McGregor vs Chandler fight. To that, he said, “No I didn’t mention that I would be the backup. I’m not a backup fighter anymore, but I mentioned if someone got hurt, and they need someone to save the day, they know who to call.” He also mentioned that he was always there for UFC and if UFC needed him, he would be ready.

This is not a surprise because the organizers informed the former interim welterweight champion at the last moment that he would be the backup fighter for Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards if the weigh-ins were not successful. There was another revelation from ‘Chaos’ about the contract for UFC 303. According to him, he has not received any contracts from UFC CEO Dana White yet!

He recently had a conversation with ‘The RushWith Maxx Crosby’ and declared that he did not receive any statement from the UFC CEO regarding a fight. He said about the fight while accusing Garry, “Now we know that he’s a liar, because the UFC, Hunter (Campbell), Dana (White) they haven’t talked to me about this fight, this fight has not been presented, he’s just lying and trying to get clickbait,”

His last fight was a setback because it was his third loss and Leon Edwards defeated him in UFC 296. So he is seeking another fight, but not with Garry, and claims that he is ready to be a backup for McGregor vs Chandler. The 36-year-old claimed that he would fight Garry because Garry held the 7th rank, while he held the 4th rank. However, Garry explained that Covington is ducking the fight because he is afraid.
Now does Covington want to be the backup for Conor vs Michael, and does he not want to fight Ian Garry? We shall get to know in good time.
