Colby Covington is in a tough spot. The American welterweight got handed another defeat against Leon Edwards in December, last year. However, he credits his defeat to a foot injury he sustained in the first round. This injury was allegedly caused after he landed a kick on the welterweight champion. Additionally, in a recent interview, he unveiled his X-ray, revealing a broken foot.
Moreover, this injury was not only felt by him but also noticed by Dana White, President of the UFC after the bout. What did he have to say? Let’s find that out.

Covington, after his defeat, knew that his foot was injured. However, he was not aware of whether it was a fracture. Meanwhile, White knew that Covington had an off night and was curious to know if it was caused by an injury. Subsequently, he reached out to the UFC fighter but the American did not reveal much to him as he was unsure.
While recalling this interaction, Covington said, “I remember he called me right after the fight he said ‘Hey man what is going on?’ And I didn’t want to say the foot is broken because I had to wait to see the X-ray first to know for sure. I know I couldn’t walk on it because I was badly hurt.”
The aforementioned reaction tells us a lot about the aftermath of the fight. Moreover, It appears this injury took a toll on him physically and will be out of the sport for some time. But, until when? When can one expect him to come back and against whom?
What lies ahead for Covington?
Covington is interested in getting back as and when his recovery is complete and the same shall not take more than 3-4 months. Moreover, when he does come back, he wants it to be a main-event fight. In the same interview, he said, “I’ll back be back in no time. By summer, I’ll be back ready to be the main event headline, do the best business in the UFC. Some people are going to be shocked.”
Moreover, if and when he does make a return, who would it be against? The options are plenty, and among others, he mentioned the name of Ian Garry. A fight between the two would be massive in the sport and a great showcase of talent for both of them at this stage of their careers.
