The UFC President, Dana White, shook the entire welterweight division of the promotion when he declared Colby Covington as the next title challenger for Leon Edwards. The other fighters, including Edwards, were upset with White’s decision. However, the UFC boss made sure that Covington would be Edwards’ next opponent, no matter what and insisted that as a champion, it is his duty to fight. The other welterweights accused White of biased decision-making and fans argued that Belal Muhammad was a worthy opponent. Muhammad currently stands at an 8-fight winning streak, except for a no-contest in between.
‘Remember the Name’ came forward and tweeted that some sort of conspiracy is going on between White and ‘Chaos’. However, the UFC boss was not ready to budge an inch from his decision. He stated that his decision was not going to change even after the bout between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal. At the moment, UFC legend Chael Sonnen has warned the MMA world about Colby Covington becoming the champion.

Chael Sonnen says Colby Covington would be the biggest Villian
Chael Sonnen was talking on his YouTube channel about the possibility of ‘Chaos’ becoming the new champion. He said, “What would happen if Colby Covington won? Colby Covington, correct me if I’m wrong, would become the biggest villain to be UFC champion in the sports history.”
He continued, “Do you see it differently and what would happen then? I mean, what would happen when Colby’s the champion of the world? Where is he gonna turn it up? Then what opportunities are going to present themselves? What media? What interviews?“

Talking on the same topic, the 45-year-old said, “I’m just saying that’s a very interesting thing to me these two could… I’m telling you that Colby might be the biggest villain to be Champion ever. Leon might be the nicest Champion ever.“
Why Covington does not deserve a title shot?
White’s announcement disturbed the entire UFC community, as Covington’s last matches were not up to the level of competitiveness expectated. He lost two out of his last four matches. Both the matches he lost were for the title against the former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. Also, the last time ‘Chaos’ appeared in the Octagon was in March 2022. All these factors make him ‘unfit’ for a title bout. However, the MMA world needs to wait to find out if the bout between the two will come to fruition. And if it does, what will happen if Covington becomes the champion?
