A number of UFC fans criticized the co-main event of UFC 288 between Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns due to its sedated pace. Also, after the revelation of Burns’ injury in the early minutes, some fans’ wrath turned solely towards Muhammad for the lackluster bout, even after achieving a victory. But, recently it appeared that Muhammad also stepped into the UFC 288 co-main event with an injured ankle. However, one of ‘Remember The Name’s’ recent interviews disclosed that he was more concerned about someone in his own camp flashing out the news of his injury instead of the injury itself.

The famed UFC personality, Chael Sonnen, touched on this issue in one of his YouTube videos as well. ‘The American Gangster’ pulled up previous references on how these types of incidents might affect a fighter. Further, he also talked about a similar incident where another noted UFC veteran had tried to indulge in mental warfare with the UFC legend, Georges St-Pierre prior to their fight.

The UFC veteran being discussed here is none other than the famed multi-weight division fighter and former UFC champion, BJ Penn. Sonnen pulled out an old incident where Penn had tried to put ‘GSP’ in a Belal Muhammad-like situation. ‘Remember The Name’ understandably was quite frustrated at the leaking of the information about his injury. In his interview with ‘MMA Underground’, he stated, “I was looking like, who’s the rat in my camp.”

Probably, Penn also wanted St-Pierre to worry about someone leaking information about his training instead of preparing for the bout. Sonnen revealed how Penn had planned to make it happen.

He narrated, So BJ Penn was getting ready to fight Georges St-Pierre and BJ thought, ‘Oh, this is a good idea’ and he claimed he had a “mole” in George’s camp which he didn’t.” He also predicted Penn’s motive behind this, He just realized how effective it can be and he just claimed that he had one but he wasn’t sure enough”.

The 46-year-old ex-UFC fighter further iterated how ‘The Prodigy’ had elaborated on the story, too. He quoted Penn saying, ‘I’ve got emails, I can show you emails, I’ve got pages and pages of notes.’ So well, then people go, ‘Come on, show us the emails’, ‘No, no no, I’m not gonna tell you. I could, I could though’, I mean, like he really milked it and played with it for a while.”

The best trash talker in the history of MMA also talked about another similar incident related to the famous UFC personalities, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.

Sonnen also pulled up another similar incident. He revealed how the former UFC Light Heavyweight champ, Quinton Jackson, was once shocked after he himself put out one of his planned moves on social media.

This entire incident had happened prior to ‘Rampage’s’ bout against the current UFC Heavyweight kingpin, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Sonnen described that ‘Rampage’ had put out a video of his training to “elbow Jon Jones.” But he was startled when he witnessed ‘Bones’ uploading a video of training to defend elbows just after a few days.

The above instance was entirely a coincidence. But most UFC fans know the results of the ‘Rampage’ vs ‘Bones’ bout at UFC 135. A lot would agree that in a sport like MMA, the method and plan behind training prior to a fight is a huge factor. Hence, some fans might find Sonnen’s viewpoints quite justified in this regard.

Would you also like to agree with him on this? How much, according to you, do these types of information leakages affect fighters?
