Former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva is reportedly in talks to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. inside the boxing ring. The bout can potentially take place on June 19, which will also be the last time the former WBC middleweight champion competes.
While looking for an opponent for his farewell bout, the Mexican boxer has expressed interest in fighting ‘The Spider’. ESPN Knockout first reported the news following a press-conference last week. A promoter of the June 19 event has also confirmed the news. However, nothing is official as of yet.

Saul Rios, one of the promoters of the event, said recently, “It was what Julio mentioned, for now there is nothing concrete, but it is [what] you are trying to do, we are negotiating. It would be a 10-round fight.” The news is fascinating in many aspects, as MMA fans would love to see Silva compete inside the squared ring.
The former middleweight champion was recently released by the UFC after his loss to Uriah Hall in October. Silva has won only one fight inside the Octagon since 2013, as his UFC 183 win over Nick Diaz was later turned into a no-contest. And at 45, the Brazilian legend is way past his prime as a fighter.
So, one can understand the UFC’s decision to cut the legendary figure as the promotion is currently looking to size up their bloated roster. There were reports of ‘The Spider‘ possibly tying knots with Bellator MMA. However, those rumors never materialized.
How would Anderson Silva fare inside the squared ring?
Silva won’t be the first prominent UFC superstar to step into the world of boxing. Former two-division UFC champion, Conor McGregor, is the most famous MMA star to do it. Also, former UFC heavyweight champion, Frank Mir, will fight in a boxing match in April. Ben Askren will also make his boxing debut in the same card as Mir.

Silva has been a prolific striker throughout his career. His striking accuracy combined with his exceptional head-movement makes up for a good recipe for boxing. However, against a former world champion like Chavez Jr., he will have his hands full.
