Bruce Buffer is one of the most recognizable voices in the world of combat sports. He has been the UFC announcer for 26 years and is now a brand in himself. Buffer started working with the UFC when it was struggling to stay relevant. He stuck with the promotion saw it become what it is today.
The ‘Veteran Voice of the Octagon,’ in the latest episode of his podcast, had Francis Ngannou as a guest. ‘The Predator’ is currently having contract issues with the UFC, and later in the podcast, Buffer talked about it. While discussing fighters leaving UFC and joining other organizations, he had this to say.
“It would be stupid to go your own way,” Buffer said. “The UFC is the NFL.”

“No offense to other organizations, but you become irrelevant when you leave the UFC after a while. To a degree.”
Ngannou’s contract expires by the end of this year and he is not willing to fight again under the current one. The contract dispute between him and the UFC has been going on for a very long time. And according to the champion, it is not about the money. He is fighting for his freedom and wants to be treated as an independent contractor.

Both parties will be working towards a solution. Ngannou is currently on the sidelines and will be for some time because of injuries.
Francis Ngannou to undergo knee surgery
Francis Ngannou became the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion at UFC 270. He did so by defeating the interim champion, Ciryl Gane. However, after the fight, the Cameroonian fighter revealed he had an injured knee. He injured it in the build-up of the fight.
‘The Predator‘ suffered a torn MCL and damaged ACL. According to his manager, he will undergo surgery but only after he visits and returns from Cameroon. Martin said, “I continue to be amazed and inspired by Francis’ heart and resilience. Fighting on one leg to overcome all odds, and remind the world he is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I think we can all agree he deserves some time to go back home and be with his family and countrymen.”

“Upon his return, we plan on getting surgery and starting the recovery process so we can get him back to 100 percent as soon as possible.”

The heavyweight champion will be out for approximately nine months after the surgery. So, it will be interesting to see what the UFC does with the heavyweight title situation.
