Tom Aspinall might have felt a sense of relief when Dana White openly addressed the potential Jon Jones fight in a positive light. While publicly claiming that it could be the biggest fight in promotional history, the 55-year-old stressed that ‘Bones’ has to fight the interim champion to unify the belt. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen believes that the situation with this heavyweight clash is trickier than most people realize.
Chael Sonnen refutes the recent noise made by several media outlets, claiming that Dana White will make the fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. But why? ‘The American Gangster’ believes the UFC CEO may have come into an agreement with the fans and pundits’ choice for the Englishman to be the next and logical opponent for Jones, we still don’t know if that’s the immediate route for the two heavyweight stars.
“So Dana got asked over the weekend, by the way, if he’d make that fight, he said, ‘Yeah, 100 percent.’ And a headline came out – ‘Dana White a 100 percent guarantees he’ll make the fight.’ That’s not what I’ve heard,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel.

“What I heard and in the context, Dana was saying that he 100 percent agrees, and he 100 percent was not going to offer any other fight. He was going to offer those two that fight. That’s what I got out of it. I do feel very confident in telling you that will happen,” he admitted.
While the Aspinall and Jones’s speculation keeps the internet busy, another fresh development has come to light about a former UFC champion returning to the heavyweight picture. And if you’ve guessed it, yes, it’s Francis Ngannou.

Potential rumors about Francis Ngannou joining the fray beside Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones
As soon as Dana White dropped the hint at the most unexpected announcement in the coming days, it gave rise to a boatload of speculations. “You will never f***ing see coming,” the 55-year-old stated post-UFC Tampa ahead of 2025. The first rumor related to this statement was about Conor McGregor and maybe he could fight featherweight champion Ilia Topuria in Spain. Well, that turned out to be a false alarm as the Irishman recently announced that he’s got a boxing match against Logan Paul coming up in India.

Then, we have the rumors about Francis Ngannou and his links with the UFC. The fact that Dana White claims his announcement will blow everybody’s minds has added to the steaming rumor mill. Former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub, sparked a discussion when he insinuated that ‘The Predator’ could be on his way back to fight the winner of Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones. “The only thing that would blow me… would be if it’s Francis. He has one fight left on [his] PFL contract,” Schaub stated on his YouTube channel.
This speculation, although tempting to believe, is a highly unlikely scenario because Francis Ngannou and Dana White have been very public with their disdain towards each other. But what does this mean for Tom Aspinall’s chance of becoming the undisputed champion? Could Ngannou steal his spot? We’ll get to know more, as this story develops in the coming days and months.
