The UFC referee Marc Goddard might have witnessed every action that a cage can offer in an officiating career of almost 18 years. With such a long officiating career comes a great deal of anecdotes and stories. While the veteran referee once had a Conor McGregor situation on his hands, Goddard also encountered another similar incident that he shared recently.

Goddard took to Instagram to share the incident that dates back to UFC 138. Significantly, the incident took place in his hometown of Birmingham, where he assumed the referee duties.

What did Goddard post and how did the fans react?

The noted referee recalled the incident that took place around 11 years ago at UFC’s Birmingham card. While narrating the incident, Goddard mentioned that during the main event fight’s introduction by Bruce Buffer, he spotted a kerfuffle in the crowd.

Further, he wrote that the individual shoveled and jumped through the crowd. Not only did security fail to nab the person, but he also made it to the Octagon. This prompted Goddard to run across the ring and grab the disrupter.

Later on, the eminent referee escorted the intruder, and the proceedings of the Leben vs. Muñoz’s main event resumed. Subsequently, this post seized the attention of the fans, who applauded Goddard for his quick action.

One user referred to a 2017 incident that involved the former UFC champion, Conor McGregor, and Goddard at Bellator 187. Thus, they wrote, “No one gets in the cage when big Marc’s reffing, not even McNugget!”

Conor McGregor and Goddard’s situation in Bellator

The veteran referee remains one of the most prominent names when it comes to the Octagon referees. During the bout between Charlie Ward and John Redmond at Bellator 187, the Irishman jumped into the cage while Goddard was examining the fallen Redmond.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Goddard detailed the incident. Also, he mentioned that McGregor began celebrating with his teammate and shoved him inside the cage. Notably, Goddard wrote that this confusion didn’t allow him to assess the situation, even though the fight was still in progress.

Not only did the Dublin-born fighter threaten the veteran referee, but also slapped an official while being escorted out. However, the MMA-turned-referee, who has effectively employed his MMA skills to avoid any dangerous cage situation, prevailed in this situation as well.
