Daniel Cormier, Anthony Smith, Rashad Evans, and Dominick Reyes recently came together for an insightful conversation about their experiences facing off against one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, Jon Jones. As all of them have shared the octagon with Jones in the past, their discussion covered a lot of ground, providing unique insights into the enigmatic fighter’s strengths and weaknesses.
At one point, the discussion revolved around Jones moving up to heavyweight to face Ciryl Gane, which brought up the topic of weight cuts and everything revolving around it. During this discussion, Jones’ arch-rival and UFC expert, Daniel Cormier, expressed his struggles with weight cuts during his fighting days and mentioned his friend, the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who also struggled with weight cuts. Cormier went on to claim how for Team AKA, he and Khabib are ‘weight bullies’.

As Daniel Cormier sat down with Jon Jones’ other previous opponents, the discussion turned towards Jones’ recent bulk-up, which has been grabbing a lot of attention. During the conversation, Cormier mentioned how he used to undergo extreme weight cuts at times when he fought. “I would get down from 260 sometimes… And I almost died,” said DC. He continued, “I almost died, son.”
And he also brought up Khabib Nurmagomedov, who also struggled with making weight. Then, Cormier explained that how to the Team AKA, where he and Khabib had previously trained, how to them, he and Khabib were both weight bullies because of their struggles with weight. Cormier stated, “To all the guys from AKA, me and Khabib[Nurmagomedov], we’re just weight bullies.”
During the conversation, Cormier also expressed his disappointment with Jones’ bulk-up and how he expected better from his arch-rival.
DC is unimpressed with Jon Jones’ bulk-up
Jon Jones‘ move up to heavyweight is creating as much buzz as his return itself. The fighter recently expressed that the decision to move up in weight was a tough one, but he’s confident that he’s up for the challenge. While everyone is looking forward to Jones’ debut in the heavyweight division, his arch-rival, Daniel Cormier, seems rather unimpressed with his transformation.
DC said, “For three years, we heard Jon Jones was away to bulk up and put on muscle. But when I look at him, to me it feels like he ‘gained weight’.”

He added, “It doesn’t feel like it’s as greater way as I kind of expected after three years of him lifting and putting on muscle.”
However, in retrospect, Jones is rather confident about his move up to heavyweight. He is certain to take on Ciryl Gane and dominate the heavyweight division. Only time will tell whether his decision pays off, but Jones is ready to take on the challenge head-on.
