And also excites fans of MMA with his spontaneous reactions to UFC fights as a commentator. But, in a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan revealed the type of fighters he appreciates the most. Not those who are a jack of all trades, but the ones who mastered a particular form. Such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, who’s known for his exceptionally great grappling skills, which never failed him in his decorated UFC career.

Exactly how former lightweight champion, Khabib famously demonstrated during his time as a fighter. And earned many accolades from fans and pundits alike.
Rogan said, “I’m a purist. I wanna see what a person is capable of doing to another person.”
The podcast host explained, “even if it’s not exciting, even if that person can just take that person down at will and hold them down and keep punching them.”
“Even if the punches aren’t devastating, I’m fascinated by someone’s ability to impose their skillset on someone else.”

He explained that most MMA viewers just focus on the devastating kicks and jabs. Whereas, the MMA analyst focuses more on tactical warfare. Maybe that’s the reason why Rogan named one fighter as the best wrestler in the welterweight division.
The podcast host adores Ben Askren for his skill
In the same episode of JRE, Joe Rogan praised Ben Askren for his ability to grapple during his time in the Bellator. And felt sad that the audience couldn’t appreciate him enough for his ability to get a person down to the ground.
‘The Eagle’ used this same skill to dominate his opponents and went undefeated.

Rogan said, “When he was in Bellator, people thought it was boring.”
“Because all he was doing was like throwing them to the ground and giving them nuggies.”
But, Rogan explains as a former professional MMA fighter that it takes a lot of dedication and practice to pull it off. And is way more effective against opponents in a controlled environment, such as tournaments and sports, compared to fancy kicks.
