Is Dana White's Noche UFC decision a bold move or a recipe for disaster?

The UFC is going all-out for the upcoming UFC Noche (306) card. After all, it would be the first-ever combat sports event at the iconic ‘Sphere’ in Las Vegas. So much so that the Dana White-led promotion has invested $20 million in production costs alone! And what makes the card even more special is the fact that the Noche card on September 14 will commemorate the Mexican Independence Day, and is aimed mainly at the Mexican fanbase.

To please the Mexican audience, the Noche event is not only chock full of Mexican fighters, but the UFC is going one step further. One of the less well-received of these moves is the UFC announcing that it would be introducing eight new ring girls for the card, six of whom are Mexico-born and two are second-generation Mexican. This move, not so predictably has not made fans any happier, with some even calling it out as mostly irrelevant.

And this gave a chance to UFC co-creator and former producer, Campbell McLaren to take a shot at Dana White and co. The Scotsman is currently the CEO of the MMA promotion ‘Combate Global’ these days, and took this opportunity to not only throw shade at the UFC but also talk up his own organization. “The Mexican women in Combate are fighters. Not round card girls,” Campbell tweeted in response to the Mexican ring-girls revelation.

Of course, the UFC too, has many many female Mexican fighters on its roster, many of whom are fighting on the Noche card. But Campbell chose to concentrate on the ring-girls part, which is in character for him as this is not the first time in recent days he has denigrated the UFC, and for good reason. After all, he feels his contributions to the promotion are being erased by the UFC CEO.

Campbell McLaren trashes Dana White for claims he hired Joe Rogan

Everybody knows Joe Rogan has worked for the UFC for nearly twenty years. But virtually no one knows who hired him. In fact, if one has paid any heed to Dana White, it seems that he was the one who brought Rogan to the UFC. But that is not the case. Truthfully, the person who hired Rogan for the first time was, you guessed it, Campbell McLaren in 1997, back when he was still in the UFC.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dana White's Noche UFC decision a bold move or a recipe for disaster?

Have an interesting take?

And the former UFC producer, hurt at Dana White for not acknowledging it in a recent interview with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News, sent out a tweet to set the record straight. “I call BS. Dana White forgot I hired Joe Rogan? And btw, I hired Brian Kilmeade too. I guess @ryan_harkness didn’t know that either,” he wrote, aiming for the writer of an article who had reported on the interview.

Of course, Rogan was the backstage interviewer in the pre-Zuffa days and had quit the promotion within two years since he was losing money by working for them in the pre-Zuffa days. And as a backstage interviewer, he didn’t have a very prominent role in the promotion, to the point that Dana White has claimed that he didn’t even know Rogan used to work for the UFC before he saw the commentator defending it in an interview! What are your thoughts on Campbell’s tweet? And of course the ring girls ordeal!
