UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling recently gave a health update via his social media. ‘Funkmaster’ last entered the octagon at UFC 280, where he beat former T.J. Dillashaw to retain his title. While there are talks of his next title defense being against the returning Henry Cejudo, the fight is far from materializing.
Sterling has been the target of several jibes from both Cejudo and Sean O’Malley. Both contenders are eager to get a piece of the champion, while Sterling seems to be prioritizing his health. Cejudo had previously claimed he would fight Sterling in March. However, that did not come to fruition. Sterling has had his bad luck with injuries before. Now the champion is set to try something new to address those woes.

In a recent tweet, Sterling revealed he was going to Colombia for a new treatment program. He mentioned going to Medellin for a stem cell treatment program to help him get back on track.
The 33-year-old wrote, “Next weekend I’m off to Medellin, Colombia for the @bioXcellerator stem cell treatment program! I’m very optimistic that this will have me back and ready to compete sooner than later.”

‘Funkmaster’ also noted how MMA figures like Joe Rogan, Kamaru Usman, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, and Al Iaquinta highly rated the facility. The champion also hoped to have success with the treatment like those that he mentioned. Rogan even talked about the facility with Action Bronson on JRE once.
Sterling also received wishes from Conor McGregor‘s coach John Kavanagh, who replied to the tweet.

He also wanted to help prove the treatment would help athletes heal up and perform at high levels. While Sterling is away, healing his body, there is no lack of noise in the bantamweight division.
What does Sterling’s absence mean for the 135 lbs division?
With the champion unavailable with no set date for a return, an interim title fight would not be out of the question. With #1 ranked Sean O’Malley and Henry Cejudo both ready to go, that is one possible option to pursue. However, ‘Suga’ does not think that it is likely.
The 28-year-old recently said that the UFC would rather strip Sterling of the belt than make an interim title fight. “Aljo’s not hurt, he’s not injured, there’s no real reason he’s not fighting. They’ll rather strip him than do an interim for a reason like that,” said O’Malley.

The Contender Series Alum also thought that Sterling vs. Cejudo would go down in March. He further stated that Sterling is holding on to the title because he knows they numbered his days as champion.
