Dana White’s UFC is known for its marketing stunts. The crew behind knows how to awe its existing fanbase and draw people toward the sport. However, they’ve never taken it to this scale ever before. To celebrate the upcoming UFC283 with Glover Teixeira vs Jamal Hill as the main event, they went all out in Brazil. Many notable fighters such as Derek Brunson, and Neil Magny gave a surprising reaction to this marketing stunt. However, fans ripped into the parade. As they considered it downright insulting to the monument of Jesus Christ.

The UFC has done one of its biggest mistakes to date

The official UFC Instagram handle shared a picture of the historic monument, Christ the Redeemer, sporting a UFC Championship belt on its shoulder. The organization boldly claimed it was a “real photograph” taken ahead of UFC 283 held in Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Therefore, many prominent fighters shared their thoughts on this preposterous advertisement.

Derek Brunson commented “The UFC Apex about to get struck by lightning” on the official Instagram post.

However, Khamzat Chimaev‘s sparring partner Neil Magny recently learned a lesson from ‘Borz’. But Magny couldn’t hide his feelings about this Instagram post ahead of his match against Gilbert Burns at UFC 282. He wrote, “ Y’all done put a belt on Jesus!”

Even lightweight UFC fighter, Grant Dawson let his feelings known about the statue “Jesus needs a hug #HSA”

Therefore, professional fighters took note of this over-the-top attempt to garner attention.

Fans deemed the promotional stunt as ‘Tasteless’

However, fans couldn’t suppress their emotions towards this gimmick from Dana White’s UFC to grab more eyeballs. They considered this act to be a prime example of corporate marketing strategies. Anything else would’ve been forgiven. But, using a religious figure sent the wrong message to many followers of the sport. Fans wrote in the comments of the same post:

  • This is disrespectful
  • Even religious landmarks aren’t safe from modern day corporate marketing and consumerism
  • Idk ab this one chief
  • Tasteless.
  • Take it down

Therefore, many fans disliked the propaganda the photo promotes. And demanded to restore the monument to its original form.
