Brandon Moreno really made an impactful statement in the main event of UFC Edmonton. The former 2-time flyweight champion defeated the seemingly unbeatable Amir Albazi, and that too, with a comprehensive unanimous decision win. It didn’t take him much time to reveal what his intentions were following that win, which was another run as the UFC champion.
The former two-time champion was on a 2-fight losing skid after dropping the belt to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290. However, Brandon Moreno’s demolition of Amir Albazi, who suffered his maiden UFC defeat, proved that he’s still got it and isn’t going to go away from the title conversation, and this win has only legitimized his case for a title shot.
While sending a clear-cut message to Alexandre Pantoja, who’ll defend his title against a debuting Kai Asakura at UFC 310, Brandon Moreno stated, “I just want to be up on the top again. I want my title back. This is just a reminder for the rest of the division. I never say nothing, I’m always very respectful with everybody but man, put me somewhere here and I’ll be the baddest person on the planet,” during the post-fight interview.

According to Amir Albazi’s profile on the UFC’s website, he seems to have a great striking defense, but that didn’t come to play when he butted heads with Brandon Moreno. The former champion outclassed the up-and-comer, landing a total of 132 out of 317 strikes. For Albazi, he could only land 63 pit of 235 attempts on ‘The Assassin Baby’. However, ‘The Prince’ managed to secure one takedown out of his four attempts, which didn’t seem to be in Moreno’s game plan.

Brandon Moreno even drew cheers from the Edmonton crowd as he proceeded to show some flashing moves, like the rolling thunder, during the closing moments of the clash. While his face didn’t seem all that messed up, Amir Albazi was visibly hurt, leading the judges to score 46-49, 45-50, and 45-50, in favor of the first Mexican UFC champion in history.
Amir Albazi may need to re-assess his performance against the former champion after such a decisive loss, but as we approach the end of the year, all eyes will be on the UFC 310 flyweight title fight between Kai Asakura and Alexandre Pantoja.
