Are UFC 309's ticket prices a slap in the face to loyal fans of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic?

Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic are finally going to clash at UFC 309 but the fans have been left fuming after the pre-sale tickets for the event went live! Originally set to face-off at UFC 295 last year, Jones suffered a pectoral tendon tear that required surgery, and the bout was canceled. Now, they’re set to headline Madison Square Garden, the iconic New York venue on November 16. This will be the first fight back for Jones since he won the vacant heavyweight title by finishing Ciryl Gane in the first round of their UFC 285 clash.

What about Stipe Miocic? The former two-time heavyweight champion will step into the Octagon for the first time since losing his title to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in 2021. The stakes for this bout aren’t just about the UFC title. In a recent interview with ‘Clocked N’ Loaded’ at UFC 306, ‘Bones’ shared that, “It’s going to be the last time, more than likely.”

But does that justify the ticket prices? In a recent update shared on Instagram by ‘MMA Pack’, it was revealed, “The lowest price (presale) for #UFC309 tickets at MSG in New York is $610. The highest priced ticket is $6412 as of today.”

As such, for many fans, the sky-high ticket prices have taken the wind out of their sails. The reactions online indicate that the community is frustrated with the hefty price tag for the event. Here’s a look at what the netizens had to say.

Fans blast UFC and Dana White for questionable ticket prices for Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic card

The online outrage was swift, echoing a growing sentiment that this may be the final curtain for both Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. While ‘Bones’ himself indicated that the end of his historic UFC career may be in sight, according to UFC boss Dana White, “Stipe 100 percent is going to retire after this fight.” With both men planning to step away from the sport regardless of the outcome of their fight, it does add some weight to the fan’s frustrations over the ticket prices.

What’s your perspective on:

Are UFC 309's ticket prices a slap in the face to loyal fans of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic?

Have an interesting take?

“They keep overpricing these tickets. 610 to sit on the roof to see a retirement fight that no one cares about.”

However, a contrasting opinion was also put forth by one fan as they claimed that the tickets were definitely “worth it” to witness the two legends ride off into the sunset after leaving it all inside the Octagon. What do you think?

“I’m pretty sure this is the last time we see either of these guys fight. Worth it!!!”

The bout being held in New York may also be a factor in the ticket prices for the event. Before UFC 306 blew up the records for the highest live-gate by bringing in a whopping $21, 829,245, the record was held by UFC 205. The venue? Madison Square Garden in New York, where Conor McGregor took on Eddie Alvarez and the event raked in an eye-popping $17,700,000.

“Big Apple = Big Money”

Other fans were more interested in paying for the fight if it featured Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones for the undisputed title. Aspinall currently holds the interim title which he has already defended once against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. It’s not just the fans who feel this way. According to UFC veteran Ben Askren in a conversation with Daniel Cormier on YouTube, “Tom Aspinall’s been out on these streets beating everyone up, I would love to see Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones…”

“Maybe if it was tom vs jon I’d go into debt for the fight”

This isn’t the first time the ticket prices for a UFC event have rubbed the fans the wrong way as they pointed it out yet again. At UFC 306, the high-end tickets were priced at $12,000 with the lowest coming in at around $3,000 according to Ticketmaster. What happened next? The promotion had to slash the prices of the lowest tickets to $1000 to draw in the fans. Could we see the same happening for UFC 309 as well?

In conclusion, while some believe witnessing the end of two legendary careers is worth the price of admission for UFC 309, others are left wondering if the UFC and Dana White are once again alienating its core audience. The thrill of watching Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic ride off into the sunset may not justify the price tag for everyone. Do you think Dana White will listen to the fans and make an adjustment before the event? Why or Why not? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
