At UFC 309, Michael Chandler added his fourth promotional loss by falling via unanimous decision against former champion Charles Oliveira. And being out of the Octagon for two years ended up affecting Michael Chandler’s performance. At least that’s what his fans would like to believe. However, in a recent episode of Bussin’ With The Boys, Chandler revealed the injury that led to a drop in his performance, while UFC 309 added another name to its list of fighters who received injuries on the night.
In the episode, ‘Iron’ claimed that his fight against Charles Oliveira was the most pain that he had ever experienced in his life. Despite having a phenomenal training camp, Chandler revealed that the number of injuries he received in that one fight was the highest ever for him. He said, “We went to war; we did our thing. My body, the most pain I’ve ever been in my entire life. The most injuries I’ve ever had in a fight, for sure.”
He then listed the names of the injuries that he suffered: “Peed blood, inflammation all over; my whole body is swollen… The first (blood in my urine) was very light, which was in my drug test. New York drug-tested me before and after the fight… It had a light tint, and the second one was beet-looking juice. It was dark. My whole body hurt.”

Michael Chandler also revealed that Oliveira injured his leg in the first round via a kneebar. However, he did not realize the extent of it until he was back in his corner and sat on the stool. ‘Iron’ noticed that his leg was going unstable and was not working right. In fact, for the 23 minutes of that fight, he was unsure of whether his leg would work fine or completely give out.

But it is worth noting that despite this injury, Michael Chandler was able to give Charles Oliveira the scare of his life in the final round. With one bad leg, the fighter was able to pick Oliveira on his back twice for a Samoan backdrop. This truly proves the brute strength that ‘Iron’ packs within him. However, he wasn’t the only one who received such injuries at 309. Stipe Miocic and Charles Oliveira himself suffered some nasty injuries.

Injury update on Stipe Miocic and Charles Oliveira
Stipe Miocic had his last dance in the main event of UFC 309 against Jon Jones. And while many expected it to be a solid fight, it turned out to be a one-sided affair instead. ‘Bones’ completely dominated the fight, while ‘Stone Cold’ tried to survive the rounds. However, a spinning back kick ended it all for the challenger, as he walked out of MMA with a final loss. Although he did get something out of the fight. What was it? A list of injuries.
According to Dr. Brian Sutterer, ‘Stone Cold’ might’ve received a number of injuries in his final fight. On his YouTube channel, the doctor watched the fight and broke down the potential injuries Miocic might’ve suffered. As he said, “We can see the initial impact is going to be absorbed by Miocic’s primarily latissimus dorsi—that’s going to be his lat muscle. Unfortunately, it doesn’t absorb that much of the blow, and we see this significant amount of deterioration go into the ribs and that upper left thoracic region.” If this wasn’t enough, he also might’ve injured his spleen, kidney, and other internal organs.

Miocic’s manager Lloyd Pierson of VaynerSports later confirmed that the former champion was clear of any rib injuries. Lucky for him, the kick from Jones only temporarily shut him down and cost him the fight.
As for Oliveira, the fighter from the favelas revealed that he already suffered from torn ligaments in his knees when he got into the fight. However, he did not reveal it since he didn’t wish to pull out of the fight. “I didn’t want to pull out of this fight at all because I knew that if I won, I could fight for the title again.” Now that we know it, it seems extraordinary that Oliveira managed to grab such a dominant win as he did.
