Do walkout songs really impact a fighter's performance, or are they just for show?

Everyone would love a theme song or a walkout song for themselves in their life that could play in the background. But unfortunately, real life is not like that – unless you are a UFC star. Every UFC combatant is welcomed into the massive arena with their walkout song. Moreover, they can even select their music so they can march to their vibe while they prepare to defeat their opponent.

Some fighters go for famous pop songs while others might even choose soundtracks from anime and some like Alex Pereira decide to represent their culture. So let’s take a deep dive into what songs we might hear at UFC 307.

UFC 307 main event- Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree’s walkout songs

UFC 307 is going to arrive again at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on October 5 with an amazing array of matchups. This much-awaited event is UFC’s return to the high altitude state for the first time since UFC 291. This fight card is going to have two title fights. The main event is between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira who will defend his throne against Khalil Rountree Jr.

The co-main event is going to see Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena fight for the bantamweight belt.  The fighters are all going to have a dramatic entry with a mesmerizing aura with their own chosen songs echoing throughout the arena. These walkouts induce adrenaline in everyone including the audience and are perfect to energize the combatants for the war ahead.

Even though the UFC 307 walkout songs are a surprise, we can see what songs the fighters used in the past. Alex Pereira is set to have his 3rd title defense after securing the light heavyweight belt against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. ‘Poatan’ has a special song when he walks out which makes him unique and sets him apart from the others. His song is not only attributed to his heritage but his signature bow and arrow gesture is also a powerful tribute to his Pataxo tribal roots.

He uses the song ‘Itsari’ by the Brazilian band Sepultura as his trademark entrance song. He has always walked out to this enigmatic track on all of his UFC fights. On the other hand, his opponent Khalil Rountree Jr, who faced a PED ban 4 months ago, has different songs for each fight.

He generally switches up his walkout music and his recent walk out song before fighting Anthony Smith was the iconic ‘Staying Alive’ by the Bee Gees. ‘The War Horse’ had also picked the song ‘Isis’ by Joyner Lucas for his walkout song against Marcin Prachnio at UFC 257. He also selected “Cloak & Dagger” by Burna Boy feat. J. Hus for his fight against Chris Daukaus, so clearly he has an affinity for hip-hop. Now let’s see what our other chosen stars selected for their walkout.

Which songs will Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena Walk out to?

Raquel Pennington who has a record of 13-5 and 6 fight winning streak likes a little bit of theatrics and drama when she is working out. For her last few bouts, she has been loyal in walking into the Octagon to the empowering tune of ‘The Bravest’ by Sir Roosevelt.

When she fought against Meisha Tate at UFC 205, ‘Rocky’ had made her entrance with ‘Can’t Hold Us’ by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft Ray Dalton. Meanwhile, her opponent for UFC 307, Julianna Pena switches up her music for every bout.

She had made her entrance to ‘Who Gon Stop Me’ by Jay Z and Kanye West for her title defense. At UFC 269 the ‘Venezuelan Vixen’ decided to go for a more hard song and selected ‘Psycho’ by Puddle of Mudd. Now coming to the most awaited matchup between Jose Aldo and Mario Bautista. Walkout songs of Jose Aldo, Kayla Harrison, Kevin Holland, and others 

‘Run This Town’ has become synonymous with the longtime featherweight combatant Jose Aldo. He had created his legacy with a triumphant comeback victory over Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301. ‘Junior’ might stick to his signature song of walking out to ‘Run This Town’ By Jay Z featuring Rihanna and Kanye West.

However, at UFC 301, he decided to revamp the song by blending it with ‘We Are the Champions’ by Queen. Jose Aldo also used the Spanish hit ‘Somos Gente De Zambada’ by Mexican artists Lenin Ramirez and Regulo Cabo, for his UFC 218 rematch with Max Holloway. Meanwhile, his opponent Bautista who had his debut against Vory Sandhagen -remained fixated on the iconic Led Zeppelin song ‘Immigrant Song’ for his walkout anthem.

As for Kayla Harrison, she walks out to ‘Unbreakable’ by Jay Kill and The Hustle Standard. Meanwhile, Kevin Holland has used  ‘Ghost’ by NBA Youngboy and chants the lyrics while entering the octagon. He has also used ‘Emo Rockstar’ by the same NBA Youngboy for his walkout at UFC 272.
