It is difficult to win a title, especially a UFC title! The only thing harder, however, is to keep it, as Sean Strickland, Leon Edwards, and Sean O’Malley found out this year alone. It is safe to say that 2024 hasn’t been a good year for the defending champions. But Raquel Pennington will leave no stone unturned to avoid being on this unceremonious list against Julianna Pena at UFC 307 as the pair clashes for the Bantamweight gold.
The two, of course, were teammates and roommates on season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter which Pena eventually won. And while that may be expected to create a special bond between fighters, it had the opposite effect in the case of this duo. But let’s talk about how the financial side of things is rolling in this anticipated clash.

Raquel Pennington, of course, is looking to defend her title for the first time at UFC 307, which belonged to her upcoming opponent not too long ago. However, the title was vacated in June 2023 shortly after Amanda Nunes finally decided to hang up her gloves. Since Pena was injured, the UFC had Pennington face Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC 297 for the division gold.
And Pennington, after a tough first round, utterly dominated the Brazilian for the rest of the four rounds to win a clear unanimous decision and become the new women’s bantamweight champion, succeeding Nunes who left her mark as perhaps the greatest female fighter in the history of the sport.
As the champion, ‘Rocky’ will get paid the champion’s minimum $500k in base pay at UFC 307. Of course, this amount would be boosted by a further $100k if she wins. Since she is the title holder, the Colorado native will almost surely be getting a cut of the PPV action. All in all, reports suggest that Pennington could walk home around $1.8 million richer after UFC 307.

Julianna Pena, of course, is coming off after her iconic twin fights against Amanda Nunes. ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ of course, pulled a Buster Douglas and stopped ‘The Lioness’ in their UFC 269 clash to capture the women’s bantamweight title. However, she lost her gold to the GOAT contender in her very next fight in July 2022.

Now she is gearing up to save herself from being a one-fight champion and get back what she thinks rightfully belongs to her. And while she is not the champ, The Venezuelan Vixen’s purse is not far behind the reigning champion. According to reports, Pena will get a base pay of $400k along with her compliance pay. It is unknown if she is getting any cut of the PPV revenue, but since she is a former champion, that is not completely out of the question. What are your predictions for Pennington-Pena?
