Following the successful run of UFC 300, the excitement for the next pay-per-view event, UFC 301, is palpable. The UFC sure did take its time to travel back to Rio de Janeiro, after UFC 283, where Glover Teixeira hung his gloves following his loss to Jamahall Hill, who then wore the belt of the UFC light heavyweight champion.

This time, the flyweight division will shine bright in the title fight. Although there are no secondary title fights, the cards are packed with promising names. The event is destined to be one of the best, that Brazil has ever witnessed.

With UFC 301, the flyweight division is set to get the spotlight as Alexandre Pantoja will defend his title against Steve Erceg. Pantoja currently has a 5-fight win streak running. With 27 victories under his name, ‘The Cannibal’ will defend his belt for the second consecutive time, after defeating Brandon Royval at UFC 296 last December. With the fight being held in his hometown, the fans have shiploads of expectations from Pantoja to give them a truly entertaining fight.

Steve Erceg, on the other hand, is rocking an impressive 11-fight win streak, out of the 12 fights he has under his belt. Having defeated the likes of Alessandro Costa and David Dvorak, ‘Astroboy’ has the potency to pose a grave threat to the flyweight champ and his belt. Erceg specializes in submissions. He has won 6 of his fights with submissions and 2 with knockout punches.

Without a doubt, Pantoja’s fighting style revolves more around his skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. However, with Erceg’s affinity to grapple, things will probably move to the ground pretty soon.

UFC 301: Jose Aldo vs. Jonathan Martinez

The fight card also features the return of the UFC Hall of Famer and the former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, in the co-main event, against the dangerous Jonathan Martinez, in a bantamweight bout. Aldo will be coming back to the Octagon after a brief retirement. Although currently unranked in the bantamweight division, he seemingly hopes to flare the love people for him once again by taking on the #13 bantamweight fighter. ‘Scarface’, who hung his gloves with a mind-boggling 18-fight win streak in the featherweight division, confirmed that it would be his final fight with the UFC.

Jonathan Martinez also has an impressive career, with 13 UFC fights. He has won 10 of those and is boasting a 6-fight win streak. Undeniably, the matchup is nothing short of exciting. But only time can tell how Aldo would fare in the fight, given that it could be his final bout in his homeland.
