UFC 300: “2 More Fights” and “No Date” Promised by Dana White

Dana White seems fond of adding more fuel to the already raging fire that is UFC 300. Just moments ago, White sat down for the post-event press conference of Power Slap 6. The UFC CEO was stormed by reporters with many questions about UFC 300 and the things he has planned for the future of the event.

The deal with UFC 300 has been rather exciting. It has a card that’s stacked from bottom to top with big fights everywhere. White has often used this as a talking point to prove just how big he wants the pay-per-view to be. And now, in the latest confession, he has teased more fights.

Dana White and UFC 300, a gift that keeps giving

The main event of UFC 300 is still shrouded in mystery. No one knows who the two big names are going to be and what title they’ll fight for, if any at all. Meanwhile, White has teased not one but two fights that he and the matchmakers are working on for the big pay-per-view.

“I keep saying this, Figueiredo versus Cody Garbrandt is literally the first fight of the night.” White started. “So, when you look at the card where it sits today, every single fight could be a main event on a fight night or a pay-per-view. We’re just waiting for that last. We got two more fights that we gotta put together, we’re working on it.”

White is right about every fight being its own spectacle. But will the main event prove hype-worthy enough as the clock keeps ticking? Many are speculating an announcement during the Super Bowl which is merely hours away but White has promised two fights now. If those aren’t all set yet, does he have enough time to do so before the Super Bowl?

Later on, in the interview, he told the reporters that the fights he is yet to set up have nothing to do with the main event. Does this mean that the big main event fight has already been set up behind the scenes? Either way, fans won’t know the difference any time soon.

White won’t kiss and tell just yet

Dana White confirmed that the two fights the UFC is still working on are the co-main and “another one”. So not the main event fight by any stretch of imagination if the UFC head honcho is to be believed. He also made it clear that declaring the fights without confirming it is impossible. And so, there is no real date that fans can expect it.

“No date, ASAP is the date,” White said after revealing that the matchmakers have been through some difficulties trying to arrange the fight. If you were to read between the lines, you’d understand that it likely has to do with two difficult opponents. Perhaps a champion or former champion who wasn’t willing to come back just yet? Or maybe a retired fighter being pulled back into the cage? The possibilities are endless.
