UFC 300 is set to take place on April 13 2024 in Las Vegas Nevada. The historic card will be a milestone event for the promotion as it marks a new chapter in the UFC’s rise to global prominence. As such, Dana White’s announcement regarding the first few fights for the card has led to growing anticipation amongst the fans about what the rest of the event will shape up to be.

However, considering the significance of the event, here are a few additions that could have taken the hype surrounding the announcement to the stratosphere!

Conor McGregor’s UFC return

‘The Notorious’ has been sidelined from competition since his loss to Dustin Poirier after suffering a horrific leg fracture at UFC 264. The Irish star has since been linked to a matchup against Michael Chandler that was originally set to occur at the end of their TUF 31 season. However, issues with McGregor’s availability for USADA testing led to the bout being scrapped.

The addition of McGregor vs. Chandler to the UFC 300 announcement would have finally settled the speculation surrounding McGregor’s return to competition. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie Radio, Chandler stated that his main focus is fighting McGregor and has also claimed that the UFC will not wait till July to make the matchup happen.

He noted, “I’m solely focused on McGregor. I believe its smoke and mirrors, and I don’t think they have any intention on waiting until July.

In light of his remarks, the fight between the two should have been confirmed during the UFC 300 announcement to build up even more excitement amongst the fans!

Alex Pereira’s heavyweight debut

‘Poatan’ recently caused fans to sit up and take notice as he teased what could be an attempt at securing another title in the UFC! The Brazilian light-heavyweight champion shared a cryptic message on his Instagram where he stated, “30+300 = 3”, which could indicate his intentions to claim another belt to his already impressive collection.

The post could be inferred as Pereira claiming that he could add 30 lbs to his frame to challenge Tom Aspinall, the current UFC interim heavyweight champion for a fight! Despite his call-out of Israel Adesanya after securing the light-heavyweight title at UFC  295, Pereira seems to have set his sights on new challenges. In a recent statement, he revealed, “I gave him the chance. If he comes up, nice; if he doesn’t, it doesn’t matter.”

However, Pereira vs. Aspinall for the Interim heavyweight title at UFC 300 could have been an earth-shaking update for the MMA fandom!

Khamzat Chimaev’s return to competition

‘Borz’ recently announced on his Instagram that he will be undergoing surgery to fix the injuries he sustained in his hand during his fight with Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. He won the fight via decision despite sustaining the injury in the very first round of their fight.

In an Instagram live session with his fans, Chimaev stated, “I’m going to do a surgery, operation in one, two weeks, after that, do the recovery, come back, smash somebody.”

He has also claimed that he would be interested in making his return to the UFC 300 card. As such, it would have been interesting if the UFC added Chimaev vs. Usman as a rematch for the historic event. Many fans felt that Usman wasn’t prepared for the fight as he took the matchup on short notice and even moved up to 185 lbs for the fight. Even though he lost the fight, he put in an impressive performance against Chimaev who struggled to finish the smaller fighter.
