O’Malley and Welch, in episode 271 of the TimboSugarShow, covered the highly anticipated fight between Max Holloway against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. O’Malley pointed out how most fans were reacting to the matchup Holloway vs Gaethje fans not to be so sure. He stated, “We think Justin’s going out there just beat Max everyone’s kind of unanimous with that, but you just never f***ing know.”

Welch too leaned towards Gaethje in the fight, but added, “Justin could have not a great day. Max comes out, starts finding his range early and Justin’s like, ‘Damn, he’s faster than I thought he was. Trickier than I thought be was’. You never know. But also, like, Justin Gaethje. You look at Max’s record. Never fought a boxer as scary as Justin.”

The bantamweight champ responded to Welch’s claim of Holloway not fighting a boxer as dangerous as Gaethje, pointing out how he fought against Dustin Poirier. He pointed out how the BMF title holder shouldn’t be overconfident coming into the fight, as he said, “You never f***ing know Justin can be a little overconfident. Max could be like this is a scary fight and train harder than you’d ever have. Who knows, we just never know which is fun.”

The fight between Gaethje and Holloway is pretty hard to choose from considering how equally talented both guys are, as well as how much they’re loved by the fans. However, a past opponent of both fighters also gave his pick for the fight.

Dustin Poirier is a fighter who spent time inside the octagon with both fighters. Now, having spent time inside the cage fighting both fighters, he has experienced how both fighters fight. So on the matchup between Holloway and Poirier, he gave a pretty straightforward answer.

Poirier, in an interview with the MMA Hour, stated, “I think I’d put money on Max. I’ve seen a lot of people online saying ‘Max is going to be undersized’. Max is a big guy. He and Gaethje probably walk around at the same weight… His timing, range, durability. It’s a coin toss, but if I was betting, I would bet Max.”
