UFC 300 is set for a title fight between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former champion Jamahal Hill. They will headline the historic event, and many people start decoding their opinions about the much-awaited bout. As such, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan opined Pereira’s first title defense would probably not be a cakewalk.
Alex Pereira has never ceased to amaze the MMA enthusiasts since he joined Dana White‘s promotion. He won two titles in two separate divisions in just seven UFC fights. He has six wins and one loss, out of which four of his wins have been knockout victories. However, Joe Rogan believes ‘Poatan’ could be up for his biggest challenge against Jamahal Hill.

The 56-year-old UFC host feels like the UFC 300 main event fight could be a tight affair. Despite Alex Pereira knocking out former champion Jiri Prochazka to win the vacant light heavy title, he believes that the Brazilian is up for a more demanding challenge than he’s ever been going against Jamahal Hill. As per MMA outlet ‘El Golpe‘, Rogan praised ‘Sweet Dreams’ striking abilities and said, “Jamahal is a real challenge for Poatan, Jamahal is a sniper man!!! he finds the jaws, he has dangerous hands!”. Furthermore, Joe Rogan also pointed out how clinical Jamahal Hill was against Alex Pereira’s mentor, Glover Teixeira. ‘Sweet Dreams’ defeated the veteran to become the light heavyweight champion at UC 283. “What he did to Glover was awesome, just finished him, he has a lot of power,” Rogan added. However, Pereira remains unfazed about Hill. The reigning champion already revealed his post-UFC 300 plans. Let’s see what he said.
‘Poatan’ is planning to fight in back-to-back PPVs
Following the announcement regarding UFC 300’s main event, Alex Pereira mentioned that he’s already looking forward to his next challenge after dealing with Jamahal Hill. He mentioned that he wants to defend his title immediately at UFC 301, which will take place in Brazil less than a month after his first title defense in April. ‘Poatan’ claimed to have done that as a kickboxer and hopes to do it again in the UFC.

“That [fighting back to back at UFC 300 and UFC 301] is a very big possibility because… if he doesn’t get hurt [against Jamahal Hill], he did this before in kickboxing so… [If] everything goes fine, there’s a big chance he’ll try to defend the belt very fast,” Alex Pereira’s translator stated. It is something that no other UFC champion has ever done, but ‘Poatan’ doesn’t see any reason why he won’t be able to do it.

Jamahal Hill has a similar record to Alex Pereira in one aspect: they both share only one loss. However, he has more experience inside the Octagon than his Brazilian counterpart, with a few more fights under his belt. Nonetheless, Pereira remains unperturbed by Hill’s challenge as we anticipate whether there will be a change in the title holder at UFC 300.
