Having surmounted the teacher in their UFC 283 bout, comprehensively, Jamahal Hill faces the student Alex Pereira, on the top of the UFC 300 marquee card. ‘Sweet Dreams’ will take on the two-division champion to try to reclaim his light heavyweight title. Having taken the title from ‘Poatan’s’ coach and friend, Glover Teixeira two ago, the Chicago native followed Jiri Prochazka‘s example and vacated the title following an Achilles heel rupture.

Along with his dynamic striking, what sets the 32-year-old apart is his supreme self-confidence and poise, which was nowhere more apparent than his UFC contract-winning contest at Dana White‘s Contender Series, where he sent a ‘clear message’ to the UFC boss.

Jamahal Hill committed to going all-in

Before, Jamahal Hill wanted to be a basketball player. The athletically talented young man would go to college on a basketball scholarship and was a relative latecomer to mixed martial arts. He found a flyer for an MMA gym in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, offering thirty days of free training, and found the opportunity too good to pass up.

He started attending classes and embarked on his consequential MMA journey. Jamahal Hill fought his way up the ranks in local MMA promotions before being invited to Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019. The Chicago resident faced Alexander Poppeck for what would turn out to be his coming-out party. ‘Sweet Dreams’ dominated the contest and knocked him out impressively in the second round.

“I ultimately have always dreamed of being a UFC world champion. I got the call to be on Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas. My message was clear: ‘I’m here to let you know. Throw me in deep water. Let me see if I can swim. I’ve been doing the backstroke in this mother***er ever since,” Hill said on the latest episode of ‘UFC 300 Countdown’.

Hill wanted to send a message to Dana White, asking to be thrown into ‘deep waters’ and show the UFC CEO the type of fighter he was. “I come to fight. I don’t come to sit back, play around with you. I come to get in your face, put these hands on you, and put you to sleep. I’m ready to show you what happens when they let a lion into the dog house. That’s what people want to see, [me] putting another opponent to sleep, hands being thrown and heads being knocked. And that’s what I come with,” Jamahal Hill added.

Fireworks expected to fly in Hill vs. Pereira

Speaking about his UFC 300 contest against Alex Pereira, the American seemed to be looking forward to facing the light heavyweight champion. “Alex was there he was in Glover’s corner. I went in, and I dominated Glover for five rounds. Now it’s his turn to come in and see if he can capitalise on that same task and ultimately succeed where his teacher did not,” the former champion said.

Despite the potential disappointment of fans due to their fight being announced as the main event for UFC 300, it promises to be an exciting stylistic clash. Jamahal Hill has already expressed his willingness to throw and get into a good old-fashioned brawl. And so is Alex Pereira, whose legendary left hand is a real and dangerous challenge for anyone he faces. While Hill is supremely confident as ever, ‘Poatan’ is likely the fiercest opponent he has faced in his career so far!
