Magomed Ankalaev seems to be on a completely different level in the UFC light heavyweight division. Ankalaev was last seen inside the Octagon at UFC Vegas 84, where he took on Johnny Walker. He asserted his dominance with a second-round knockout victory against the Brazilian. Now, the Dagestani fighter has his eyes set on the current champion, Alex Pereira, and wants to get a title shot at UFC 300.

The 31-year-old recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a warning for “Poatan.” Although there has been no official announcement of the fight, Ankalaev’s callout presents the UFC with another option for the main event of the highly touted April PPV. So what are the odds of that happening?

Alex Pereira won the light heavyweight title after beating Jiri Prochazka at UFC  295 via knockout. Pereira moved to the light heavyweight division, having already won and lost the title in the middleweight division. While most fighters seem to get intimidated by the champion, Ankalaev doesn’t seem to bother much.

The Dagestani fighter has been very vocal about his desire to take on Pereira for the title and is confident of beating him. His recent post on X highlighted this brazen confidence.

After his win at UFC Vegas 84, Ankalaev’s post-fight interview gathered a lot of attention. The 31-year-old called out the champion and seemed desperate for a second title shot. His recent post on X also hinted at that. He posted, “Remember this guys I keep my word for Johnny my next fight ko under 2 around specially if is it, Jamal or to the Champion I need zero wrestling for both Both have soft jaw.”

Ankalaev has remained unbeaten since September 2018 and currently holds a record of 19-1-1. While the Dagestani might feel he deserves a title shot because of his recent performances, former Champion Jamal Hill is also waiting to face Alex Pereira next on his return.

Is Jamal Hill preparing for a return at UFC 300?

Former light heavyweight champion Jamal Hill recently took to Instagram to share a post that has created a lot of buzz. Hill posted a picture of him with a bruised lip which hinted at a possible hard sparring session. The former champion has been out of action for quite some time now and his post might hint at a return soon. ‘ Sweet Dreams’ won the vacant light heavyweight title after he defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.

However, Hill had to vacate the title much sooner than expected after he suffered an Achilles tendon tear. The former champion suffered the injury while playing pickup basketball. Since then, Hill has been working on his recovery and is waiting for his title fight.
