Alex Pereira is ready to fight Jamahal Hill in UFC 300. He was recently asked about this opportunity on the special UFC Roundup. Poatoan didn’t mince any words and said that he believed the fight was rushed. Back in July 2023, Hill had to relinquish his light heavyweight title in July 2023 after he ruptured his Achilles tendon playing basketball.
Now, in a recent interview with Niko Pajarillo for Fox Sports Australia, ‘Stoneface’ has put a stamp of approval on fans worrying that the fight is being rushed.

The host asked him how he was feeling about the fight in UFC 300 and the fact that everyone was looking forward to it since he was the star of the show. Only 10 days are left for the big event to start and all the fighters are getting ready to give their best inside the Octagon. However, Pereira revealed, “It’s an honor you know whenever the UFC put on UFC 100, 200 all these benchmarks it’s a huge deal and you know, even though we didn’t have that much time, and everything was kind of uh rushed. I think I did a very good job and I’m ready to show it.”
He did not have much time to prepare for the fight because everything was kind of rushed. This fight also sparked a little bit of controversy because Hill’s injury i.e., Achilles tendon tear can take a very long time to heal.
Fans had also criticized the quick promotion of arranging the Pereira vs. Hill fight showing their concern for Hill’s recovery and rehab process. Meanwhile, Tim Welch also raised concerns regarding this rushed fight.

Tim Welch at unease with Jamahal Hill’s return
Jamahal Hill’s last appearance inside the Octagon was at UFC 283 In January 2023. He became the UFC light heavyweight champion by defeating Glover Teixeira. Cut to July, he had relinquished the title.
On April 13th, less than a year after his injury, he is going to take on his opponent Alex Pereira. But Tim Welch showed his concerns for this rushed fight. He stated, “Jamahal Hill, he tore his Achilles clean off just like I did last July which is 9 months ago. My surgeon told me I’m not going to be close to 100% until 12 months, he’s at 9 months…” This is more concerning given the fact that his opponent uses calf kicks which can be concerning for Hill because he has not recovered completely. Fighting when he is not fully recovered can cause a risk of reinjury when he will generate full power from the ball of his foot.
